Are you an experienced economist with strong persuasive skills and a passion for mentoring young professionals, and are you ready to make your mark on the economic future of the Netherlands? If so, we have a challenging opportunity for you!
At the General Economic Policy Directorate (AEP) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy in The Hague, you will be working at the heart of economic decision-making in the Netherlands. As a senior policy officer, you will play a key role within an ambitious, close-knit group of approximately twelve economists. Together with this team, you will address both current and future challenges facing the Dutch economy.
AEP is seeking a senior policy officer for the Macroeconomics, Planning, and Sustainable Economy (MODE) cluster. In this cluster, colleagues address the major economic issues of the day in areas such as the business cycle and inflation, the National Growth Fund, the planning of future energy infrastructure, economic security, the business climate, and business policy.
You analyze issues from an economic perspective, taking political dynamics into account and considering a broad view of prosperity. A central question here is how public interests can best be safeguarded: by the government, the market, or a combination of the two. In addition to your advisory role on topics raised by other directorates or departments, you take the lead in putting important new economic issues on the agenda. You not only know how to substantiate these with strong analysis but also know how to convince others of your new ideas. Building a strong (inter)departmental network is essential to your success, as you want to be involved in policy-making processes at an early stage and proactively exert influence. In addition, you regularly represent AEP in various meetings. You also support less experienced colleagues in the cluster to operate effectively, inspiring and guiding them along the way.

In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (ICB). The ICB consists of money (16.37% of your gross annual salary) and time. With the ICB, you can make choices that suit you and customize part of your employment benefits. For example, you can choose to have a portion of your monthly income paid out whenever you wish. You can also convert this budget into leave and vice versa, or spend it on tax-friendly purposes. The Dutch government is strongly committed to personal growth and career development and offers numerous opportunities for this.
