Politically sensitive issues with significant societal relevance: you will be closely involved with the Financial and Economic Affairs Directorate at the Ministry of Finance in The Hague. You will take an open and critical look at policy implementation within the ministry, ranging from budget proposals regarding parents affected by the benefits scandal to the evaluation of loans to Ukraine. You ensure that funds are spent effectively and that policy implementation is of high quality. What will you be doing?
Depending on the department you’re assigned to, and in consultation with you, you’ll be assigned one or more cases. We’ll put together a work package with you, taking your personal needs and skills into account. Varied days? You bet! You’ll be involved in various cases. These can be substantive cases, such as export credit insurance or Customs, but also procedural cases, such as drafting a budget document for the House of Representatives or coordinating contacts with the Court of Audit. For example, you might collaborate with the Tax and Customs Administration to analyze productivity at the Tax Information Line. You’ll calculate the required capacity and consult with various departments within the Ministry of Finance to determine how productivity can be improved. Alternatively, you might work on improving the quality of research within the Ministry of Finance. In this role, you’ll organize knowledge-sharing sessions, invite researchers, and encourage colleagues to regularly evaluate their policies. Or you might dive deep into the financial systems at Customs. You’ll examine commitment management and the legitimacy of expenditures, and consult with Customs on how accountability for the figures can be further improved. In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (ICB). The ICB consists of money (16.37% of your gross annual salary) and time.
