Senior Consultant

The Council for Public Health and Society (RVS) is seeking a senior advisor to join the RVS staff.

Who are we?

The Council for Public Health and Society (RVS) is an independent advisory body to the government and parliament. The Council consists of 10 members and is chaired by Jet Bussemaker. Together with the Council, a team of advisors and support staff forms the RVS. The Council was established in 2015.

The Council for Public Health & Society provides inspiration and guidance on how we can live and care for one another in the future.

As a strategic and independent advisory body, the RVS contributes to high-quality policy-making and decision-making at various levels at the intersection of public health, healthcare, and society. We do this by bringing issues to the forefront, providing information on them, and guiding political and public debate.

We also pay close attention to how policies play out in practice. We offer broader perspectives, deeper insights, and innovative approaches, and encourage a balanced consideration of public values. This is how the RVS aims to make a difference.

For us as an advisory council, issues at the intersection of public health and society are at the heart of our work. The “&” in the Advisory Council on Public Health and Society is central to the three priorities of the 2024–2028 work agenda: “Unlimited Care?”, “Health for All?”, and “Living Well (Together)?” Within each priority, a number of advisory topics will be addressed in the coming years. The RVS provides both solicited and unsolicited advice.

Position

As a senior advisor, you will typically serve as a project leader. Together with the members of the council, you will be responsible for developing policy recommendations and other outputs. You will also conduct research with your colleagues and speak with experts, stakeholders, healthcare providers, and citizens. Conducting thorough research, synthesizing knowledge from various sources, and translating this into a clear message in an advisory document is the essence of the role.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Designing, implementing, and managing (consulting) projects.
• Writing reports and essays.
• Conducting (literature) research and other forms of knowledge gathering and synthesis.
• Organizing dialogue sessions and/or expert meetings.
• Building and maintaining a broad and relevant network of expertise in policy, healthcare, society, and research.
• Identifying and actively contributing ideas on relevant developments and topics that the Council can pursue.

Job Requirements

• You think at the graduate level and have knowledge of issues related to public health and society;
• You are capable of conceptual thinking and know how to translate that into concrete advice;
• You can write clearly and enjoy doing so;
• You have demonstrable work experience in policy, research, or practice in the fields of healthcare, public health, and/or social affairs;
• You are able to work well with a wide range of people, such as council members and stakeholders;
• You ensure that different perspectives are incorporated into the advisory process; you think independently and also offer your own judgment;
• You connect easily with others and communicate clearly and persuasively;
• You know what it takes to operate in a complex political and administrative landscape.

Terms of Employment

• Salary level: Grade 12
• Contract duration: 1 year with the possibility of a permanent position
• Minimum number of hours per week: 32
• Maximum number of hours per week: 36
