Your role
The city of Rotterdam is changing, and the municipality is changing with it. To foster this change within the organization, we need leaders with a diverse range of skills. As a Senior Management Development (MD) Advisor at the City of Rotterdam, you will focus on leadership development for the organization, advising senior management, and coaching, advising, and supporting individual managers. In this role, you will support management in their work to build the most beautiful city in the Netherlands and serve more than 620,000 Rotterdam residents.
No two days are the same for our dynamic MD team. From writing job postings to consulting with executive boards and managers, from individual career discussions to leadership issues for the organization, from recruitment and selection procedures to making policy proposals for the MD Council (a meeting of the municipal secretary and general directors of all clusters), we cover it all
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Based on the group’s strategic priorities, conduct comprehensive analyses, provide advice, and support the Management Board in developing, implementing, and updating (the vision for) management policy.
- Providing advice on and helping to facilitate the professional development of the municipality’s senior management, including the administrative aspects thereof.
- Guiding and facilitating succession and appointment processes for senior executive positions, including talent scouting.
- Initiate and implement the MD processes at the cluster and group levels (development, review, and matching).
- Advising executive boards and managers on leadership and leadership development based on the organization’s vision and objectives and the management development policy.
- Contribute to the development of leadership programs and management development tools.
- Maintaining a network relevant to the position both within and outside the municipal organization, including with the national government and larger municipalities.
Organization
As a Senior Management Development Advisor, you will be employed by the Executive and Group Support (BCO) cluster. The BCO handles the day-to-day operations of the municipality. The departments of procurement, communications, IT, facilities, legal affairs, HR, research, and finance ensure that the clusters can focus entirely on their own tasks. As an employee of this cluster, you help ensure that the Mayor and Aldermen can govern the city. At the City of Rotterdam, we prioritize your professional development as an employee. The Mobility, Development, and Policy (MOB) Department is part of the HRO-C Division and consists of the following teams: Management Development, Mobility, Development, Interim Management and Policy, Analytics, and Projects.
The HRO-C management team helps shape the HR policy of the City of Rotterdam. Currently, the key HR themes are being an attractive employer, serving as a strategic business partner, and shaping optimal service delivery. As a senior consultant, we offer you a maximum of €7,659 (scale 14) gross per month, based on a 36-hour workweek, depending on your experience. In addition, there is a comprehensive benefits package, including a flexible spending account of 17.05% of your monthly salary that you can use in various ways.
