Working at NPO means working together to build a strong public broadcaster in the Netherlands—one that is constantly evolving and adapting to the needs of our audience. With over 600 employees, we are dedicated to this mission every day. No matter what role you play, your work always makes a difference in society.
We’re here for all Dutch people. And that goes for new colleagues, too. Everyone is welcome to join the NPO. Curious about what the NPO has to offer you? You decide which topic you’d like to learn more about. In short, you’re in charge!
As a risk officer, you will advise on the strategic risks facing the NPO and work on developing a risk management framework within our organization. You will identify the strategic risks that may arise at the NPO. What are the strategic risks and how can we address them? Which ones have already been mitigated, and which strategic risks do we still face?
You will be part of the team within the NPO that handles a wide range of governance-related tasks. In addition to the risk manager, this team includes the compliance officer, the privacy officer, and the information security officer. In this role, you are responsible for the substantive coordination of this team. You ensure regular internal consultations and prepare a quarterly risk report, which also covers other governance matters. You report functionally to the Chief Financial Officer and to the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee of the Supervisory Board.
The role of risk officer at the NPO requires seniority, a strong awareness of the organizational environment, and a broad perspective. For us, it’s not just about financial risks, but about all types of risks that could affect the NPO. You will therefore be in regular contact with the various organizational units to proactively identify risks. You look beyond simply filling out heat maps and determining control measures, ensuring that risk management actually adds value to our operations.
Your main responsibilities:
As a risk officer, you have a college or university degree. You enjoy working independently and are quick to take the initiative. You have the experience to communicate at the management level. Your highly developed analytical skills enable you to quickly and easily understand processes and procedures and improve them where necessary. Your communication and advice are clear and to the point. You always keep the organization’s best interests in mind. You are capable of playing a substantive coordinating role within the team.
The Finance Department oversees the financial management and accountability of the entire public broadcasting sector, including the NPO and its member broadcasters. The department offers ample opportunity for professional development. In recent years, significant strides have been made in improving financial administration, management information, and controlling.
The position of risk officer is a full-time role (up to 36 hours per week), though fewer hours are negotiable. You will receive a one-year contract, and the salary ranges from €4,740 to €7,685 gross per month based on a 36-hour workweek. We determine pay based on education, experience, and equal pay for all genders.

The NPO has a public mission: to serve the interests of every individual and society as a whole. The needs of our audience—with all its diverse backgrounds and perspectives—are our guiding principle. We want this to be reflected in our organization’s workforce. We believe in an inclusive organization that harnesses the power of diversity to achieve even better results. Because it is precisely because we differ from one another that we can arrive at new insights and better solutions. We therefore welcome candidates who, through their background and experience, wish to contribute to this. When candidates are equally qualified, preference will be given to the candidate who strengthens diversity within the NPO in this way.
