Are you an experienced relationship manager? Do you know how to nurture major donor leads, build warm, lasting relationships with them, and inspire them to make (significant) donations? And would you like to put your skills to work for an organization that’s experiencing tremendous growth? If so, the role of relationship manager at the ALS Netherlands Foundation might be just the opportunity for you!
After the first symptoms appear, people with ALS die within three to five years on average. The ALS Netherlands Foundation funds scientific research into the causes and treatment of ALS and the related diseases PSMA and PLS. Thanks to recent technological advances, the chances of a breakthrough are greater than ever. What is needed to achieve this is more funding to scale up research.
To help facilitate its planned growth, the ALS Netherlands Foundation is looking to expand its marketing, communications, and fundraising team and is seeking a collaborative, outgoing, ambitious, and innovative MAJOR DONOR RELATIONSHIP MANAGER (32–40 hours per week).
Working at the ALS Netherlands Foundation is characterized by a positive atmosphere. It is a flat, welcoming, and collaborative organization. The people who work here are fully committed and are not afraid to give each other constructive feedback. There are 16 employees in total; the Marketing, Communications, and Fundraising team currently consists of eight people and is led by a member of the Management Team.
This is a new position that offers plenty of room for personal initiative. Fundraising experience is not required, but you must have experience in relationship management and a genuine commitment to a charitable cause, particularly the ALS Netherlands Foundation.
What will you be doing?
- You’ll be joining an enthusiastic, ambitious team of eight dedicated and motivated colleagues. The work environment is positive and welcoming, with a strong emphasis on team spirit, though you’ll also have plenty of opportunities to work independently;
- You will be (jointly) responsible for developing and successfully implementing the major donor recruitment strategy;
- You will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and developing one-on-one relationships with major individual donors, and this role is a perfect fit for you;
- You will develop tailored proposals and, with integrity and conviction, inspire major donors to say “yes” to the proposals you present to them on behalf of the ALS Foundation, and you will be confident in engaging them in conversation about these matters;
- You put a long-term vision into practice: even after a donation has been made, you remain fully committed to engaging major donors with the ALS Netherlands Foundation.
What does the ALS Netherlands Foundation offer?
- An independent role with plenty of freedom and opportunities to thrive as a relationship manager; this is a new position that offers ample opportunity for personal input;
- A challenging and rewarding role at an organization that is experiencing tremendous growth. The recent campaign by the ALS Netherlands Foundation has been nominated for the Gouden Loekie award, the Glass House (Serious Request 2023) was a huge success, and there are highly engaging events such as the Amsterdam City Swim and Tour du ALS, which continue to grow even after many years;
- An inspiring, ambitious work environment with flat hierarchies and an excellent work atmosphere in a beautiful new office in Utrecht;
- A competitive salary: depending on your knowledge and experience, this falls within a range of €3,951 to €5,033 for full-time employment (40 hours);
- A one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal;
- Great coffee at the office, plus the option to work from home. Monday is the designated office day, and we’d prefer you to come into the office for asecond day as well.
What do you bring to the table?
- You have a college degree and/or the academic ability and mindset of a college graduate;
- You have experience in establishing and maintaining external relationships, preferably in the role of relationship or account manager;
