Fossils are an important source of information for studying the relationship between biodiversity and climate. To facilitate this, Teylers Museum aims to make its fossil collection accessible through the international research database GBIF. A six-month pilot project marks the first step: existing datasets of approximately 5,000 fossils will be converted and their content improved. For this initial selection, the focus is on the museum’s internationally renowned Cretaceous fossil collection, the highlight of which is the first-ever discovered mosasaur skull from 1766.
Teylers is seeking a Registration Assistant to temporarily join the Science Department team. Are you someone who can accurately enter a specific dataset into an existing collection registration system? If so, we would love to hear from you.
Teylers Museum is the oldest museum in the Netherlands. It is a unique 18th-century institution of learning, housed in its original building. The museum is the place to marvel at art and science and boasts a fascinating collection of fossils, minerals, books, coins, medals, scientific instruments, paintings, and drawings of international significance. Recently, the beautifully restored home of founder Pieter Teyler has also opened to the public. We organize diverse and successful exhibitions, ranging from Leonardo da Vinci to Dinomakers, from Vogelpracht to Hockney’s Eye.
