Where the first Donald Duck comic, over 200,000 e-books, and the Boekstart kit all come together. That’s the KB in The Hague. And it’s the place where, as a Digital Reading and Listening Proposal Manager, you’ll help promote reading and the joy of reading. From encouraging young people who don’t yet read to pick up that first book to improving reading skills and everything related to it. By contributing to this, you make a difference.
Will you make it happen?
As a proposition manager, your mission is to ensure that more people have the opportunity to read. To do this, you research the motivations and needs of the target groups where we can make the biggest difference. You then know what it takes to bring propositions to market, how to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and how to bring together internal areas of expertise. Moreover, you thrive on alternating between substantive work and coordinating tasks, and you easily switch between strategic, tactical, and operational levels. And there’s more. You are the proposition manager who:
- Can translate customer needs into valuable services and outline a vision for the future.
- translates ambitions and objectives into (annual) plans and takes responsibility for achieving these objectives.
- Writes business cases and go-to-market plans and is willing to make tough decisions about which services we should—or should not—continue to offer.
- Maintains active relationships with various networks, such as partners within the Reading Coalition, the public library network, the Reading Foundation, and other social organizations such as SLO or the VoorleesExpres. Also, within the organization, involves colleagues in the plans.
- It plays a crucial role in communication among the teams that work together to develop, implement, and market the proposition.
- The role involves serving as a point of contact for service coordinators across various departments and as a sounding board for the executive team member responsible for the Reading and Digital Literacy portfolio.

What is it like to work at the KB?
The KB is the National Library of the Netherlands. What more people should know is that the KB is innovating. Because that’s exactly what we’re doing! Together with 500 colleagues, we’re committed to making the Netherlands smarter, more skilled, and more creative every day. We achieve this, for example, by collecting, preserving, and sharing all digital publications from and about our country. We’re also there for the very youngest with storytime kits, for seniors with tablet courses, and for those with low literacy skills with language support. We tackle social challenges like these together with other network partners.
We embrace the differences among all our colleagues. In fact, we believe that differences complement each other. This is certainly the case in our Marketing and Education department. This department focuses on the marketing, positioning, and strategic development of digital services such as Delpher, the Online Library, and KB.nl. We also work on various educational programs, including initiatives focused on reading and digital literacy for all Dutch citizens. How do your 35 future colleagues describe the atmosphere? As driven, enthusiastic, and social.
How do I apply for this job opening?
Would you like to contribute to our innovation efforts? Great! We can’t wait to receive your resume and cover letter. Could you also describe a challenge you faced while developing or implementing a proposal, and how you handled it?
