The whole of the Netherlands is cycling! The Netherlands has more bicycles than people; we own nearly 25 million bicycles and cycle over 18 billion kilometers every year. Initiatives like the OV-fiets, 24-hour free parking, and through-cycling routes are here thanks in part to the Fietsersbond! The Fietsersbond works hard to ensure that cycling remains fun and safe for everyone, from young to old, and for all types of bikes, from classic bicycles to speed pedelecs. We do this by lobbying the government and collaborating with the business community.

The Fietsersbond has over 32,000 members and 2,000 volunteers who ensure that the interests of all cyclists are heard throughout the Netherlands.

But we’re far from done! Cycling can be made much safer, and we need your expertise and experience to make that happen. Will you help us?

What will you contribute?

You will organize and coordinate interactive guest lectures and neighborhood safaris on-site.
You will be working with our volunteers, local stakeholders, as well as children in grades 4, 5, and 6 of elementary school.
You combine the collected results with traffic engineering recommendations in a report for each location.
You will organize the follow-up for each location. This will involve discussing the results with the elementary school students and the volunteers from the Fietsersbond.
You have a knack for PR and publicity and are skilled at forging promising connections.

As a staff member for the Safe and Active School Environment project, you’ll be working toward our mission of enabling children to cycle to school safely and healthily. You won’t be doing this alone! You’ll be collaborating with colleagues from the policy team, the volunteer team, and often the communications team as well.

You'll recognize yourself in this

You have a background in traffic engineering or urban planning.
You have strong communication skills and are outgoing. You get along easily with elementary school-aged children.
You enjoy working with volunteers and like to get out and about.
You enjoy organizing inspiring events and activities.
You are a valuable sounding board for your colleagues.

A salary between €2,600 and €3,200 per month based on a full-time contract (36 hours), depending on your experience.

We work about 50% from home and 50% in the office, and we provide a work-from-home allowance.
