Do you want to work on a meaningful mission that makes a difference in society? Are you looking for a job that offers plenty of responsibility and creativity, and the chance to work in a casual team of friendly and motivated colleagues? And have you always wanted an office in the heart of Amsterdam, with workspaces in the capital’s oldest non-religious building?

Then you might just be the project manager we're looking for.

At Waag Futurelab, we are looking for a project manager (full-time).

Waag Futurelab researches, designs, creates, and advocates for a society that is in control of technological and social developments. With a team of more than 60 employees, we empower as many people as possible to contribute to an open, fair, and inclusive future. Over the past 25 years, Waag has contributed to the development and positioning of digital culture, thereby establishing an international reputation.

Do you thrive on structure and are you the type of person who brings order to others’ work and handles the planning? Do you enjoy working with multidisciplinary teams, including software developers, designers, social scientists, ethicists, policymakers, and a diverse audience?

Are you a good communicator, sociable, and able to keep track of deadlines across multiple projects? Are you comfortable handling the administrative and reporting requirements of a wide range of funders? Or do you think you could handle this and are willing to learn? Would you like to work in the heart of Amsterdam?

That works out perfectly, because we're looking for you!

What will you be doing?

Waag’s work takes many forms: from co-creation sessions to educational programs, workshops, podcasts, policy recommendations, manuals, and hardware. All of our work is carried out in collaboration with national and international partners. As a project manager, you will ensure that projects contribute to Waag’s mission by:

  • Project implementation, monitoring, and delivery
  • Managing the project team, coordinating with project partners and stakeholders,
  • Focusing on results, in consultation with your client
  • Represent Waag and the project in international consortia, partnerships, and events
  • Internal and external coordination and reporting on planning, progress, and results
  • Regular consultation with colleagues and external partners.

We are looking for:

  • Someone who is good at planning and organizing
  • Someone who is results-oriented and finds solutions when things get a little tough
  • Someone who can communicate clearly in a way that inspires a diverse group of people, making them enthusiastic and helping them connect with one another, the project, and Waag.
  • Someone who is enterprising, takes responsibility, and never gives up.
  • Someone who is eager to learn, recognizes opportunities, enjoys exploring new fields, and contributes to their own development and that of their colleagues
  • Someone who speaks English well in addition to Dutch.

What are we looking for?

Desired candidate profile:

  • College or university level of work and thinking
  • Interested in Waag Futurelab's mission?
  • Experience in planning and organizing projects and/or events
  • Experience managing research or (software) development projects is a plus

What do we offer?

  • Waag has two stunning workspaces in the heart of Amsterdam: the historic buildings Huis De Pinto and De Waag on Nieuwmarkt.
  • Work in a dynamic team of artists, scientists, and designers who are helping to build an open, fair, and inclusive future.
  • Openness, honesty, and inclusivity are the values that guide Waag in its commitment to being a good employer and in selecting the right candidate to enhance Waag’s diversity.
  • You will become part of both a research group and Waag’s team of project managers, where we share knowledge and experience and work together to develop our professional expertise and project management skills.
  • Estimated salary of €3,226–€5,090 per month (UFO Scale 10), depending on knowledge and experience (excluding 8% vacation pay), based on a 40-hour workweek.

Diversity is crucial to making technology and society more open, fair, and inclusive. That is why we encourage candidates from diverse cultural backgrounds to apply. Even if you feel you don’t meet all the requirements, we still encourage you to apply. Some qualities can’t be captured in bullet points.

Deadline:July 28, 2024 (we may close the position earlier if a suitable candidate is found)
