To minimize risks to the public interest in product safety as much as possible, we must focus our oversight efforts on areas and sectors where the risks are greatest and where oversight has the greatest impact. A robust and reliable data foundation is essential for making these informed decisions, so that we can then effectively use this data for risk assessment and to target our oversight efforts.
As a Product Safety Project Manager, you serve as a key link between policy and implementation. In this role, you coordinate the projects within the product safety domain that stem from the annual plans. You will lead the transition to a data-driven approach. Together with your colleagues, you will work in a structured manner to further develop oversight and identify the greatest risks within the product safety domain. You focus on results and monitor the progress of these (sub)projects. When bottlenecks arise, you discuss them with the Coordinating Specialist Inspector (CSI) or your supervisor. You initiate innovative actions and contribute to the development of creative intervention strategies that encourage businesses to comply with the rules. You will build connections with the various teams within the cluster and other departments. Collaboration is crucial in this regard.
In addition, we believe it is important that you also develop your expertise within (part of) the field of product safety. As a product safety project manager, you ensure that you are well-informed about developments in your field, including changes in laws and regulations. You collaborate with industry stakeholders and identify threats and opportunities for the organization. You advise the CSI and your team leader based on your subject matter expertise. You escalate issues at the right time or leverage your network. Furthermore, you always take into account the political sensitivity of your actions. When colleagues are looking for a sparring partner, you are the go-to person.
Finally, you will also contribute to the development of the Expertise Department. The Expertise Department is responsible for developing innovative and effective supervisory methods. In short, it’s a very versatile role!
You will be working in a team of enthusiastic, creative, and driven professionals dedicated to advancing product safety oversight. There are various areas of focus within product safety: the physical-mechanical and electrical product safety (FME) division focuses on technical product safety (including toys and machinery). In addition, there are also colleagues within the team who focus on the safety of, among other things, playgrounds, fairgrounds, and amusement rides (the Commodities Act Decree on Amusement and Playground Equipment (WAS)) and the energy labels of household appliances (the Act on the Implementation of EU Energy Efficiency Measures (WEE)). The chemistry expertise team focuses on the chemical safety of products (including safe cosmetics).
