More about this organization
A student presents his work in an art studio while a cameraman and sound technician record the session.

Are you passionate about maintenance projects, sustainability, energy management, and asset management? Do you have a background in architecture and are you well-versed in building systems? Are you driven by project management and do you have strong communication skills? Does collaborating with various internal and external colleagues and stakeholders motivate you?

Where will you be working?

With over 4,300 students, HKU is the largest university of the arts in the Netherlands and one of the largest educational institutions in Europe focused on art, culture, and the creative industries. HKU offers a wide range of programs across nine schools and is housed in 11 buildings, many of which are historic landmarks. HKU exists because creating art offers new perspectives, inspires stimulating interactions, and thereby gives shape and meaning to society and the challenges it faces. As HKU, we stand at the heart of that society and are committed to diversity and inclusion.

You will be part of HKU’s Facilities & Housing (FZH) team, a staff department that works closely with the support, management, and service teams at the various locations.

Our success depends entirely on the quality of our people and the ideas they bring to the table. That’s why we’re eager to learn about your talents and how you plan to make a difference as part of our organization.

What will you be doing?

  • As part of the facilities management team, you will be responsible for planning and implementing the long-term maintenance program (MJOP) for our (historic) buildings;
  • You will work closely with the site managers and be able to identify opportunities for integration during projects, whether they stem from the Long-Term Maintenance Plan (MJOP) or from requested building renovations and/or sustainability initiatives;
  • You will schedule meetings with both internal and external parties to initiate a maintenance project, discuss the details, and hand it over to the Heads of Operations and contractors. Throughout this process, you will monitor progress and make adjustments as needed;
  • You monitor the budget and take prompt action if an imbalance arises;
  • You will monitor progress and ensure that all legal documents related to the renovation or building modifications are properly documented;
  • You regularly monitor the HKU-wide Building Management System and the Energy Management System to identify and anticipate anomalies;
  • You will contribute to coordination and collaboration with the academic and research departments, administrative services, and other support departments at the various campuses.

What do you bring to the table?

  • At least a higher vocational education (HBO) level of work and thinking, or equivalent, and demonstrable knowledge of architecture and building services engineering;
  • You can adopt a collaborative and communicative approach, which allows you to easily connect with colleagues in both teaching and support roles, as well as with suppliers;
  • You have a keen understanding of organizational dynamics, quickly grasp how an organization actually operates, and have a good sense of the underlying relationships.
  • You have experience with FM systems (experience with O-prognose is a plus), project management, asset management, sustainability initiatives, and energy management;
  • You have a good command of spoken and written Dutch and English.

What do we offer?

  • In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for higher professional education, the gross monthly salary for full-time employment is in pay scale 10 (€3,377 to €5,378);
  • Vacation pay (8%) and a year-end bonus of 8.3%;
  • The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal or a permanent position, subject to satisfactory performance;
  • Time and resources to support your professional development, well-being, and long-term employability;
  • A good pension plan, commuting allowance, parental leave, and much more.

Would you like more information and/or to apply?

If you have any questions about the details of this position, please contact Jacco Daalderop, Manager of the Facilities and Housing Department, at jacco.daalderop@hku.nl. Applications will be accepted until Thursday, March 27. The first round of interviews will take place on Wednesday, April 2. Checking one or more references is part of the hiring process.

This position is being advertised both internally and externally. In the event of equal qualifications, internal candidates will be given priority. In our selection process, we recognize the value that diversity brings to our organization. Recruitment agencies are asked to refrain from contacting us regarding this position.
