Human Activities is an art institute founded by artist Renzo Martens. We believe that artistic critique of inequality should help address that inequality. We support our Congolese sister organization , le Cercle d’Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise ( CATPC), based on a former Unilever plantation in Congo, in the development of an ecological, inclusive, and worker-owned post-plantation on exhausted plantation lands, inspired and financed by art. Our work integrates art, film, museology, ecology, and regenerative economies. Human Activities is based in Amsterdam and operates internationally.
We are looking for a new colleague who can assist Human Activities and CATPC with:
- Project development: research on art, film, museology, ecology, and regenerative economies to further support CATPC and advance the development of the post-plantation site.
- Project management: coordination, preparation, and execution of exhibitions, events, conferences, film productions, etc., including financial and organizational planning.
- Fundraising: identify opportunities and draft grant proposals.
We are looking for:
- An affinity, connection, and interest in contemporary art, film, museology, ecology, the regenerative economy, and/or the Congo and the Global South;
- Ambitious, with a strong academic mindset and work ethic;
- An excellent writer with an excellent command of English and at least a basic knowledge of French;
- Hands-on and accurate;
- Experience in a similar position as a project manager or assistant curator;
- Within easy reach of Amsterdam;
- Flexibility: working hours and workload may vary.
We offer:
- The opportunity to work for an internationally active and idealistic organization that spans a wide range of activities and, perhaps most importantly, creates eco-friendly, inclusive, and worker-owned post-plantation initiatives on depleted plantation lands, inspired and funded by art.
- A competitive salary and a 12-month contract, with the possibility of extension.
To apply, please send your resume and cover letter to Janke Brands at janke@humanactivities.org by August 9. If you have any questions, please contact us at the same email address.
