More about this organization
A woman walks through a modern museum gallery featuring colorful geometric murals and large windows leading to other rooms.

Would you like to use your curiosity about the experiences of young people, your interest in modern, contemporary, and applied art, fashion, and photography—combined with your up-to-date insights into museum education and diversity & inclusion—to create and design a wonderful school-year program for secondary school students? Apply now!

Who are we?

With over 170,000 works of art, we are one of Europe’s largest museums of modern art. We organize approximately 35 exhibitions a year, spread across three buildings: the Kunstmuseum, Fotomuseum Den Haag, and KM21. Around 40,000 children and young people visit us each year.

These museums employ 135 staff members and a large number of people who are connected to the museum in other ways. Each has their own area of expertise, ranging from security guards to designers and from museum educators to curators. Education is one of the cornerstones of our museum policy.

This is you!

With your curiosity about the experiences of young people, your interest in modern, contemporary, and applied art, fashion, and photography—combined with your up-to-date insights into museum education and diversity & inclusion—you are able to create and design a wonderful school-year program for the target audience of secondary school students.

This role will draw on your conceptual, organizational, and practical skills.

What will you be doing?

  • Developing a school-year program and designing educational activities for secondary education, while collaborating with students and teachers as much as possible.
  • Managing, providing pedagogical guidance to, and evaluating museum educators and interns.
  • Participating in working groups and networks, and maintaining and expanding a relevant local and national network.
  • Delivering presentations and providing information to, among others, pupils, students, teachers, researchers, and partner institutions.
  • Writing texts related to secondary education for educational and communication purposes, as well as for fundraising.
  • Developing and purchasing, or commissioning the production and management of (digital) teaching materials.

These are your (team/department) colleagues.

The Education Department also includes a Primary Education Program Director, a Child & Family Program Director, an Education Director/Curator, and a large team of museum educators. We are a professional and dedicated Education team that works together in a pleasant and collaborative manner.

What do you bring to the table?

  • HBO-level academic and cognitive abilities
  • At least 3 years of work experience as an art teacher in secondary education, or in a comparable museum position
  • Strong writing and presentation skills
  • The belief that the student is at the heart of everything you organize and design
  • Proactive and able to work independently, as well as cooperatively

What do we offer?

  • Without exaggerating, it’s the most beautiful workplace in the Netherlands. Walk down the hallway and you’ll find yourself surrounded by Mondrians.
  • You will start with a one-year contract, with the possibility of an extension to a permanent position.
  • The planned start date is January 1, 2025.
  • A gross monthly salary between €3,641 and €4,731 (Group 10 of the Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement) on a full-time basis (36 hours per week), depending on knowledge, experience, and education.
  • An 8% vacation bonus, a 3.4% year-end bonus, and a good pension plan (ABP).
  • We offer you an NS Business Card for your commute.
  • Opportunities to take courses and training programs to further your professional development.
  • Opportunities to propose new initiatives and ideas.
  • KM Academiesoffers guided tours led by curators, so you can pick up some art history during work hours.

Interested?

  • Write a cover letter explaining your vision for engaging secondary school students in the museum and what you can bring to help bring that vision to life.
  • Please include your resume.
  • Please do this by September 30, 2024, at the latest.

Good to know

The first interviews will take place during the week of October 7.

If candidates are equally qualified, we will give preference to a candidate who complements the (cultural) makeup of the Education Department.
