More about this organization
A woman with white hair and glasses is sitting at a green table with papers, facing people who are raising their hands during a meeting.

As a Program Coordinator, you are responsible for ensuring the continuity of the Care Cafés, following up on case studies, fostering volunteer engagement, and overseeing activities within the projects in North Holland. The Care Café consists of walk-in consultation hours and group meetings (support groups, psychosocial training sessions, and themed meetings). You will guide volunteers in carrying out these activities and ensure that care is provided in a culturally sensitive manner. The work is varied and takes place at the various program locations.

Doctors of the World

Everyone has the right to healthcare. Yet access to healthcare is not a given for everyone. Not even in the Netherlands. Doctors of the World is committed to helping people who have nowhere else to turn for medical care. We translate testimonials from our programs into an activist agenda for change. Doctors of the World is part of the international medical network Médecins du Monde and operates in more than 70 countries in addition to the Netherlands. Our organization is driven by dedicated volunteers, professionals, and members. In the Netherlands, we have a team of 50 paid staff members and over 280 volunteers.

What will you be doing?

You will report to the North Holland Regional Coordinator and your responsibilities will include the following:

  • You are responsible for planning, organizing, and documenting/reporting on the walk-in consultation hours at the various locations. This includes pre- and post-meeting discussions and addressing questions related to specific cases.
  • You will share responsibility for organizing group sessions (support groups, psychosocial training sessions, and themed meetings) at various locations.
  • You will be responsible for volunteer management at the Zorgcafé: recruitment and selection, orientation, onboarding, location-specific training programs, volunteer meetings, and creating and maintaining the schedule.
  • You will share responsibility for ensuring the quality of individual and group programs.
  • You will share responsibility for developing, coordinating, and organizing training sessions and group meetings for volunteers in the region.
  • You will serve as the point of contact for the target group, support organizations, and healthcare providers on a case-by-case basis.
  • You will help shape the strategic vision for Doctors of the World’s operations in the North Holland region and provide substantive input on specific themes to further develop the program based on the healthcare needs of our target groups.
  • In your day-to-day work, you collect testimonials and case studies. You coordinate this with the advocacy and communications departments.
  • You will provide input to the fundraising department.

What do you bring to the table?

  • A completed associate’s or bachelor’s degree, preferably in a social science or (para)medical field;
  • Demonstrable work experience in the healthcare or social services sector and/or with volunteers;
  • You are client-focused and culturally sensitive;
  • You organize your own work in such a way that results are achieved within the set timeframe and using the available resources;
  • A demonstrable interest in healthcare and providing assistance to people in vulnerable situations, including those with an immigrant background;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English;
  • You enjoy working with others toward a common goal, but you’re also able to work independently at the various locations.

Work at Doctors of the World

You are drawn to working in a dynamic, innovative medical human rights organization. You enjoy collaborating with others toward a common goal, and you organize your work in such a way that results are achieved within the set timeframe and using the available resources.

In addition, you have:

  • A college-level education with a background in social work or healthcare.
  • At least 5 years of work experience; demonstrable (program) management skills, such as successfully leading staff, managing schedules and budgets, and delivering results on time within the scope of the assignment.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Dutch and English.
  • Living in the Amsterdam area.
  • An affinity for providing assistance to people in vulnerable situations, such as migrants.

We offer

A wonderful challenge and a role with a strong social impact. You’ll make a significant contribution to the humanitarian movement that is Doctors of the World, where your input and ideas are highly valued.

We also offer a 12-month employment contract, with the possibility of extension. A gross monthly salary ranging from €3,200.08 to a maximum of €4,524.02 for a full 40-hour workweek. We determine the salary range based on your knowledge and experience and compare it to our internal benchmark.

In addition, we offer a non-contributory pension and 30 days of vacation per year for full-time employees. And just as important: a great workplace, centrally located in Amsterdam, and an accessible and close-knit team.
