Production Manager at Theater Rotterdam. Theater Rotterdam is looking for you!
The words“I am because of you”succinctly capture the vision of Theater Rotterdam (TR). The realization that all interactions with others make us human guides TR’s direction. Since 2021, under the leadership of Artistic Director Alida Dors, we have embraced diversity of voices. In our artistic practice, diverse voices, languages, and forms come together—from our creators, but also from our audience as co-creators. It is our mission to make these differences productive and to allow them to enrich one another. As a theater, we are the directors of encounters—we create frameworks for temporary yet memorable fusions of worlds. As one of the largest theater companies in the Netherlands, TR performs on national and international stages and at festivals. We are a home for established, mid-career theater makers as well as new creators. They produce innovative and non-conformist theater that captures the spirit of our times. What unites them is reciprocity: from everyone’s perspective, we work together to explore what theater can mean. TR is a place where diverse truths and perspectives are heard. Dialogue and debate are essential for truly giving voice to a diversity of perspectives. The TR workplace is also characterized by an interplay of cultures, knowledge, and experience.
The Artistic Office is the artistic heart of the organization. This is where creators’ ideas are turned into concrete, actionable plans. The Artistic Office brings together artistic development, production, planning, sales, and audience engagement. This is where productions and tours take shape and where we build our audience in the Netherlands and beyond.
The production team within the Artistic Office consists of three full-time production managers, freelance production managers, a production and scheduling assistant, and a coordinator who leads and supervises the production team. And starting now, we are looking to expand the department with a fourth production manager. As a production manager, you will be responsible for the production process of Theater Rotterdam’s (international) performances, public programs, and independent projects. You will translate artistic ideas into a feasible and effective execution, anticipate potential bottlenecks and make adjustments where necessary, work closely with a diverse range of creators to create optimal conditions for the creative process and its execution, create and oversee schedules, and manage the production budget. In short, you organize and guide the entire production process. In addition, you look beyond the routine and know how to fine-tune production processes. You are a true bridge-builder within TR, establishing and strengthening connections with colleagues throughout the organization.
An independent role at the heart of a leading theater, where we work together to shape the future of the performing arts. TR is a diverse, dynamic, and safe work environment where you can be yourself and are challenged to see things from others’ perspectives—entirely in the spirit of“I am because of you.” You’ll join an inspiring and welcoming team where everyone belongs and that operates with a crew mentality: learning from and with one another.
We aim to be an organization that reflects the diversity of Rotterdam and are working toward building teams that bring together a variety of experiences and perspectives. Does this position appeal to you, or do you see yourself in part of the profile and view this as an opportunity for further professional development?Applications will be accepted through April 1, 2026, at werkenbij.theaterrotterdam.nl.
