Would you like to play a key role in preventing addiction among young people and adults? Come work with the Jellinek Prevention Team as a prevention specialist!
As a prevention specialist, you will work to raise awareness about the early detection of risky substance use. With a focus on youth and adults, you will work in a community-oriented manner with diverse target groups and professionals in the Amsterdam and Gooi en Vecht regions. You will be on the road frequently, conducting interviews or training sessions at locations such as schools and (youth) care institutions. You will do this by carrying out activities related to KOPPKOV, education (secondary/vocational basic/advanced and post-secondary vocational), (vulnerable) youth and adults, and supporting peer projects (peer-to-peer education method). In addition, you provide support to those indirectly affected who experience stress due to the alcohol or substance use of their loved ones (partners/family members/friends).
It is important that you have experience reaching hard-to-reach target groups and are able to work in a culturally sensitive manner. Together with enthusiastic colleagues, but primarily on your own, you will carry out prevention activities at a variety of locations. A scientific foundation is of the utmost importance at Jellinek. The interventions are based on a clear methodology designed to achieve the greatest possible positive impact for the people they reach.
At the office, you start the day with your colleagues and plan your schedule. Later, you speak with a professional who suspects a young person of using cannabis. You give him advice on how to approach the conversation and schedule a visit. After that, you prepare for the “Identifying and Supporting” course, which you will teach in two days at a healthcare facility for adults. You speak with a concerned mother about her son’s gaming behavior. You offer parenting advice and support. At a high school, you’re introduced as the new contact person representing Jellinek to work on an informational video about nitrous oxide. In the afternoon, you and a colleague lead a themed session for a support group on addiction.
Your responsibilities as a prevention specialist include providing information, training, coaching, and advising. You’ll do this through both one-on-one sessions and group courses with young people, parents, adults, and professionals. In addition, you will advise and train professionals in education, youth services, and social welfare organizations. Together with colleagues, but primarily on your own, you will carry out preventive interventions at various locations. Your goal is to act quickly and effectively and to refer individuals where necessary.
We are offering a position in a professional work environment where you can contribute to the development and implementation of a preventive intervention. We strive to build a diverse team where everyone feels welcome.
You are approachable, proactive, and resourceful. As a prevention specialist, you work in a culturally sensitive manner and are knowledgeable about various approaches. You enjoy collaborating with others and take a people-centered approach when working with young people, their networks, and other professionals. You do this by actively seeking to connect with them. You have knowledge of and an interest in all the (sub)cultures our country has to offer and enjoy connecting with the experiences of the people you aim to reach. A scientific foundation is of the utmost importance at Jellinek. Our interventions are based on a clear methodology designed to achieve the greatest possible positive impact for the people they reach. Due to the diversity of the work, you are skilled at planning and organizing.
