Job Description

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Senate committees, ensuring that the work of the senators runs smoothly. This is a success you can claim as your own as a committee clerk in The Hague. You are committed to fostering excellent collaboration and serve as a cultural leader within your team and during change processes within the clerk’s office. 

You will support the Justice and Security (J&V) and Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) committees, but you will also be able to assist other committees or fill in for colleagues. Within these policy areas, you will advise Members of Parliament on legal—constitutional or administrative law—and policy-related procedures. In doing so, you will primarily assist the committee chairs and members. Actively contributing ideas: that is what defines your role. In this way, you ensure consistency in the work of the House and promote the quality of the legislative process. Furthermore, you will support the Speaker and the Clerk in the run-up to and during the plenary session. 

As a functional manager, you won’t be doing this important work alone, but with your committee staff—a team of about five colleagues, including administrative staff, information specialists, and support staff. You’ll keep them informed about internal and external developments that affect the court clerk’s office. In recent years, we have grown rapidly and taken on a number of new statutory responsibilities. This has created a new dynamic. You will contribute to the smooth implementation of our change initiatives and inspire your colleagues to embrace them.

Job Requirements

  • You have a college degree.
  • You have extensive professional experience at the intersection of politics and public administration, and possess a strong theoretical (constitutional and administrative law) and practical background.
  • You have experience in coordination or management.
  • You can easily adapt your schedule to changes, even at unexpected times, and keep the organization’s best interests in mind.
  • You have a variety of advisory and communication styles, are able to empathize with the person you’re speaking with, and balance flexibility where possible with firmness when necessary.
  • You see it as a challenge to guide colleagues through change processes by sharing your vision and leading by example. 

Terms of Employment

  • Salary level: Grade 14
  • Salary description: The salary is based on a full workweek of 36 hours.
  • Monthly salary: Min. €5,279 – Max. €7,718 (gross)
  • Employment status: Fixed-term employment contract with the possibility of conversion to a permanent contract
  • Contract duration: 1 year
  • Maximum number of hours per week: 36

  • The role of committee clerk regularly requires a certain degree of flexibility. For example, committee meetings on Tuesdays often take place in the evening. Conversely, you can also expect flexibility from us when it comes to balancing your work and personal life, and it is common practice within the organization to work partly from home.
