More about this organization
Modern office building of the Dutch Patient Federation, featuring a glass facade and a wide staircase leading to the entrance.

More person, less patient. That is what the Dutch Patient Federation stands for. Together with our members, we advocate for people who need healthcare. We develop policies and influence those of other organizations and decision-makers. We ask how people experience healthcare. And based on that, we make their voices heard in doctors’ offices, in politics, and in the news. You contribute directly to that.

The Dutch Patient Federation represents more than 200 patient organizations.
About 75 people work at our organization in Utrecht.

The Patient Federation is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic

Press Officer/Spokesperson

(36 hours per week)

The Communications Department is committed to effectively raising the profile and positioning of the patient movement and the Patient Federation. The staff members focus on with press relations, public affairs/lobbying, communications consulting, association management, and content management/editorial work. The team advises on strategic issues and supports various themes, projects, and programs. The topics they address are wide-ranging. These vary from decision aids in healthcare to digital healthcare, primary care, making innovation accessible, pharmaceutical policy, and developing campaigns such as “Shared Decision-Making.” The Communications Department is the hub of strategy development in the areas of lobbying and association management.

Profile

Our new press officer/spokesperson fits the following profile:

  • You are a public relations officer with at least 5 years of experience who understands how to leverage the media to support advocacy and lobbying efforts. You have a nose for news and know how to proactively seize opportunities to bring the Patient Federation’s positions to the forefront. You develop publicity plans, contribute to communication initiatives and campaigns, and also use social media yourself to achieve results.
  • You are politically astute, have a keen eye for social trends, and serve as a trusted advisor to the executive director and management on matters related to media and public relations. At the same time, you are hands-on and enjoy collaborating with colleagues to strengthen the visibility and positioning of the patient advocacy group and the Patient Federation.
  • You have a way with words, are skilled at editing, and enjoy translating complex topics into clear, accessible language that conveys a clear message to our target audiences—whether it’s a press release, an opinion piece, a research report, or a website post.
  • You are socially conscious and care deeply about healthcare and the well-being of patients.
  • You have a college or university level of work and thinking.

Offer

We are offering a wonderful and challenging position within a dynamic organization filled with passionate people. In this role, you will be at the heart of the healthcare sector and have the opportunity to make a real difference. Significant changes are expected in the healthcare sector in the coming years, and the Dutch Patient Federation will play a key role in these developments—a role in which you will have a meaningful impact. We also offer flexible working hours. So this isn’t a job where you necessarily have to work strictly “9 to 5.” We work partly at the office in Utrecht and partly from home. This is a permanent position, and you will start with a one-year employment contract. If you perform well in the role and demonstrate that you are a good fit, your appointment will be converted to a permanent contract. Depending on your education and experience, the salary is up to €5,356.00 gross per month for a 36-hour workweek (Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement, Scale 11).

The Dutch Patient Federation offers excellent employment conditions, including an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) and a career budget. The IKB is a budget that you can use as you see fit—either to receive a cash payment or, for example, to purchase additional leave hours. You will also receive a work-from-home allowance and, if applicable, reimbursement for your commuting expenses. Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), you are enrolled in the Healthcare and Welfare Pension Fund.
