We are currently seeking a: Public Relations Officer (0.8 FTE/30 hours)
What will you be doing?
- You creatively seek out new angles to influence public discourse and look for opportunities in the press to draw more attention to our message.
- You write press releases, opinion pieces, calendar items, and responses to ANP news stories, and pitch stories to the press about major polluting companies and climate justice.
- You will organize press briefings and other events to inform the media about Milieudefensie’s key developments, campaigns, and positions.
- You respond quickly to news and arrange interviews to share our message.
- You will train colleagues to communicate effectively with the media. You will support spokespersons during media appearances and help them reinforce our message.
What are you bringing?
- You have completed a relevant degree program at the associate degree level.
- At least 5 years of experience as a press officer or journalist.
- Your Dutch is perfect, and you’re a strong writer. Proficiency in English is a plus.
- You work well with colleagues from other disciplines.
- You assess and evaluate media opportunities and have a keen sense of social trends and political dynamics.
- You are independent, assertive, and take the initiative to seize media opportunities.
- You are willing to work outside of regular office hours from time to time and to be on call.
Who do you work with?
You will be part of the press relations team, which consists of five press officers and one team leader to whom you will report. You will use your expertise in media relations to support the “Big Polluters” campaign. This means you will collaborate with many different colleagues, including communications professionals, campaigners, content specialists, and senior management.

- A salary ranging from €3,560 to €4,950 for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience. At Milieudefensie, this is a 37.5-hour workweek.
