We are currently looking for a:
Press Officer (0.8 FTE/30 hours)
What will you be doing?
- You creatively seek out new angles to influence public debate and look for opportunities in the press to draw more attention to our message.
- You respond quickly and effectively to current events and news developments, and are able to turn them into engaging news stories and social media content.
- You write press releases, opinion pieces, calendar items, and responses to ANP news stories, and pitch stories to the press about polluting companies, climate justice, and international regulations.
- You will organize press briefings and other events to inform the media about Milieudefensie’s key developments, campaigns, and positions.
- You will provide media advice to the Content & Lobbying Department and help make reports and publications accessible to a broad audience—for example, through fact sheets, visuals, and videos.
What are you bringing?
- You have completed a relevant degree program at the associate's degree level.
- You have at least 5 years of experience as a public relations officer or journalist, preferably at another nonprofit or social organization.
- You are a good team player: you identify and evaluate lobbying and media opportunities, and you have a keen sense of social trends and political dynamics.
- You are creative and proactive in the methods and channels you choose to tell our stories.
- You share Milieudefensie’s goals
- Your Dutch is perfect, and you have excellent writing skills. Proficiency in English is a plus.
- You are willing to work outside of regular office hours from time to time and to be on call.
Who do you work with?
You will be part of the press relations team, which consists of five press officers and one team leader to whom you will report. Drawing on your expertise in media relations, you will support both the Content & Lobbying department and the Major Polluters campaign. This means you will collaborate with a wide range of colleagues, including communications professionals, campaigners, lobbyists, content specialists, and senior management.

- A salary ranging from €3,560 to €4,837 for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience. At Milieudefensie, this is a 37.5-hour workweek.
