What will you be doing?

The librarian performs the following duties:

• Collects the required sheet music based on the seasonal program, in accordance with the wishes of the conductor and the Head of Artistic Affairs and Programming;
• Purchases sheet music from (representatives of) publishers;
• Maintain contact with the music library at Dutch National Opera regarding the schedule and the scores and parts they are to provide for the planned operas;
• Consult with the Head of Artistic Affairs and Programming regarding the desired castings for the remaining productions;
• Maintains the music library in OPAS and archives purchased sheet music in the portfolio. Also enters compositions into the OPAS program and links them to projects;
• Handles the sheet music, following instructions from the conductor or concertmaster. Removes it after the performance, if requested;
• Provides the necessary sheet music in orchestral folders for each production or project;
• Provides sheet music for the development of the seasonal program;
• Maintains close contact with the Education Department regarding the provision of sheet music for approved projects;
• Works closely with the Chamber Music Programmer to ensure the delivery of sheet music for approved projects;
• Keeps track of the archiving of concert recordings and ensures that they are made available to musicians on SoundCloud;
• Is responsible for compiling and preparing the game materials for the trial games.

Who are you?

For this position, we are looking for a candidate who:

• A solid musical education, such as a degree in Musicology or a Conservatory degree (at least at the associate degree level);
• Experience as an orchestra librarian is a major plus;
• A solid knowledge of classical music;
• A thorough understanding of how an orchestra operates;
• The ability to play a string instrument is a plus;
• Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations regarding archiving and classification, as well as lease and copyright laws;
• Works in a structured and precise manner;

Our offerings

A one-year fixed-term employment contract, with the possibility of renewal and a permanent position.

The salary depends on age and experience and ranges from a minimum of €2,676.00 to a maximum of €3,617.00 gross per month for a full-time position of 36 hours per week. This also includes an 8% vacation allowance and a year-end bonus. We are members of the ABP Pension Fund and offer discounts on supplemental employee insurance plans.
