Would you like to work on concrete, evidence-based solutions for sustainability in the Netherlands and beyond? Then CE Delft is the right fit for you. Since 1978, we have been providing independent analyses and practical advice at the intersection of economics, engineering, and policy. Our work helps governments and businesses make well-informed decisions that enable structural change.

At CE Delft,renewable transport fuelsis one of our areas of expertise. To strengthen this area, we are looking for an: Experienced Researcher I Consultant in Renewable Transport Fuels

What will you be doing?

As an experienced senior researcher/consultant in the field of renewable fuels, you will acquire and lead projects related to renewable fuels for aviation, maritime transport, and other heavy-duty modes of transport, where sustainability is an urgent priority and electrification is not (yet) feasible. You will investigate how the chain from production to use works and how this impacts, for example, the availability of raw materials, sustainability, demand creation, and energy security.

You will work on projects for government agencies (both national and European), businesses, and civil society organizations. You will do this in collaboration with colleagues from the Mobility & Transport team, as well as with colleagues from other departments, such as our industry experts, energy specialists, or environmental economists.

Examples of projects we undertake in the field of renewable transport fuels include:

  • Analysis of the production and use of sustainable fuels for aviation and maritime transport (e.g., SAF, e-fuels, biofuels, synthetic fuels) and their role in the European and global energy transition;
  • Issues related to the annual Energy for Transport obligation(to be known as the Fuel Transition Obligation starting in 2026), the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), and sector-specific frameworks (such as ReFuelEU Aviation and FuelEU Maritime);
  • Research into the availability and sustainability of feedstocks (raw materials), and their impact on market dynamics (supply and demand);
  • Research into fuel infrastructure (refining, storage, distribution, ports, pipelines, airports) and its role in scaling up;
  • Development of methods for sustainability (LCA, carbon accounting, certification) and their application.

At CE Delft, you’ll work in an inspiring environment on interesting projects at the intersection of business, politics, and society. You can find out more about our studies atRenewable Transport Fuels – CE DelftandReports – CE Delft.

Who are you?

  • You enjoy thinking conceptually: you see connections between industries, policy, and technology.
  • You have knowledge of sustainable transportation fuels and can analyze supply chain issues holistically, from raw materials and production to infrastructure and international trade.
  • You are familiar with or would like to learn more about policy instruments such as the annual obligation/fuel transition obligation, RED, ReFuelEU Aviation, and FuelEU Maritime.

What are we looking for?

  • You have completed a college degree.
  • You have at least 5 years of relevant work experience in the energy transition, renewable fuels, or transportation sector.
  • You have experience in securing and managing research and/or consulting projects, preferably in the form of policy and market analyses.
  • You have strong analytical and communication skills and enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • You have strong communication skills (both written and verbal, in Dutch and English).
  • A network in the field of renewable transportation fuels is a plus.

What do we offer?

CE Delft offers an informal and non-hierarchical work environment. You will work in rotating teams on a wide range of projects related to renewable transportation fuels. You will do all of this as part of a team of colleagues from various disciplines who are passionate about their work. Our colleagues are knowledgeable, communicative, enjoy brainstorming complex issues, and are open-minded, forward-thinking, and outward-looking.

We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits, including flexible working hours, free lunch, part-time work, and the option to work from home. We also have a flexible policy regarding vacation and holiday leave. This allows people of all faiths to take time off on their respective religious holidays. In your role at CE Delft, you’ll have significant freedom to develop in a direction that suits you. You can also count on excellent guidance and a focus on personal development, including a range of customized training courses.
