A white airplane is flying through a blue sky with white clouds.

Would you like to help build a more sustainable society? Then you’ve come to the right place! For 45 years, CE Delft has played a unique and leading role in developing structural solutions to sustainability challenges. We work with great enthusiasm on issues related to energy, the economy, mobility, and raw material and production chains. We are critical, open, and constructive, and our motivation is the societal value of our work. To strengthen our Mobility and Transport sector, we are looking for a: Researcher | Sustainable Aviation Advisor (mid-career to senior)

What will you be doing?

CE Delft is a nationally and internationally respected consultant in the field of making aviation more sustainable. Over the past two years, we have addressed questions such as:

  • How much more can we fly if we want to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees?
  • What would be the consequences of eliminating the tax exemption on kerosene?
  • By how much do we need to increase the airline tax to raise an additional 400 million?
  • What are the economic and climate impacts of the decision to downsize Schiphol?
  • How can a national CO2 cap for aviation be designed, and what are the pros and cons of the various options?
  • What is the non-CO2 impact of flights departing from the Netherlands, and what variations exist at the route level?
  • How high are the external costs of air travel?
  • How much CO2 do private jets emit in Europe?
  • What is the impact of ultrafine particulate matter emitted by aircraft on the health of people living near Europe’s largest airports?

We address these questions for a wide range of clients, including national ministries (Infrastructure and Water Management, Finance), the European Commission (DG MOVE), private-sector organizations (Schiphol, KLM), and NGOs (Greenpeace, Natuur en Milieu, Transport & Environment).

Together with motivated colleagues and external partners, you will carry out projects that focus on the above and related issues. In doing so, you will secure contracts and lead project teams that, for example, assess the environmental impacts of measures, conduct technical or policy analyses, or develop tools and models. Your primary field of work is aviation, but there is also room to contribute to projects on other mobility topics.

Who are you?

  • You are an experienced researcher with aviation expertise who can objectively identify the pros and cons of flying in a polarized debate and present them clearly;
  • You are passionate about advancing the sustainability of aviation and mobility;
  • You have strong analytical skills and good research abilities, which you combine with policy insight;
  • You are a team player with a professional and flexible attitude.

What are we looking for?

  • You have at least 3 years of relevant experience, and preferably more than 5 years (for example, in a research and consulting environment);
  • You have completed a college degree;
  • You have a good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written;
  • You should preferably have experience leading a project team;
  • Ideally, you have the necessary sales skills to secure projects and have a strong network of contacts in the field (or are able to build one quickly).

What do we offer?

CE Delft offers an informal and non-hierarchical work environment. Our work is often multidisciplinary, so you’ll collaborate frequently with other experts both within and outside CE Delft. You’ll do all of this as part of a team of fifteen colleagues from various disciplines who are passionate about their work.

We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits, including flexible working hours, the option to take vacation days and holidays at your convenience, free lunch, part-time work, and the ability to work from home. At CE Delft, you’ll have the freedom to develop your career in a direction that suits you. You can also count on excellent guidance and a focus on personal development, including a range of customized training courses.

Interested?

Please note! For this job opening, we do not require a standard cover letter. To explain your motivation, please attach a document in which you answer the following three questions:

  • In your opinion, what steps should definitely be taken over the next 10 years to make aviation more sustainable? (maximum 250 words)
  • Can you name one talent or skill that defines you and is valuable for this position? Please provide an example (maximum 250 words)
  • What would you like to learn or develop while working with us? (maximum 250 words)

You can apply using the application form linked to this job posting on our website: www.ce.nl/werken-bij. Please send us your cover letter (including answers to the questions above) and resume by Monday, August 19.
