With over 4,000 students, HKU is the largest university of the arts in the Netherlands and one of the largest educational institutions in Europe focused on art, culture, and the creative industries. HKU offers a wide range of programs across nine schools. HKU’s mission is “to provide and organize excellent arts education and arts research that has meaning and impact on people and society.”

HKU Games

At HKU Games, the art of games takes center stage. Games are the most complex, engaging, and modern art form in existence—one that cannot exist without a player. Games have the power to transform and make an impact on individuals, the professional field, and society. We train our students to become designers of games with artistic quality, offering the following programs: Game Art, Game Design, and Game Development (within the CMGT bachelor’s program).

What will you be doing?

  • As an educational producer, you are responsible for organizing a wide range of internal and external educational events across the various programs and academic years at HKU Games;
  • Depending on the event, you will coordinate, produce (or contribute to) events such as open houses, orientation, the first-year graduation ceremony, the internship fair, Global GameJam, showcases, Exposure, and the graduation ceremony;
  • You will develop project plans, budgets, and schedules and ensure compliance;
  • You will consult with and coordinate with the relevant departments regarding the design, program, and practical matters;
  • In consultation with the school’s subject matter experts, you will arrange the necessary (digital) resources, venues, catering, support materials, room decoration/setup, design (either in-house or outsourced), and production of event-specific communications;
  • You are accountable for the final organizational outcome based on evaluations conducted with the relevant stakeholders within the organization;

 What do you bring to the table?

  • A college-level education, preferably with a degree in event management;
  • Proven experience as an event coordinator, preferably within an educational or cultural institution, with strong project management skills;
  • A Class B driver's license is preferred;
  • An interest in higher education in the arts, video games, and our field;
  • A proactive work ethic combined with a sense of ownership and responsibility;
  • Ability to switch between a big-picture perspective and working on the finer details of projects;
  • Proficiency in Dutch and English, both spoken and written;
  • Willingness to work occasionally in the evenings or on weekends;
  • You’re a go-getter and love every aspect of event planning, from strategy to badges;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various—and sometimes diverse—internal and external stakeholders.

 What do we offer?

  • A versatile role in a casual work environment that offers room for initiative and ambition;
  • The gross monthly salary for a full-time position is – depending on education and experience – at pay scale 10 (Specialized Support Staff Level 4) in accordance with the collective labor agreement for higher professional education (as of January 1, 2025) €3,610–€5,378, excluding vacation pay (8%) and year-end bonus (8.3%);
  • The benefits package is excellent, including a generous leave policy, membership in the ABP pension fund, and a commuting allowance;
  • HKU invests in motivated and well-trained employees. This means, among other things, that you have access to time and resources for professional development and long-term employability;
  • The appointment is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension;
  • Your place of work will be the HKU campus at 50 Ina Boudier-Bakkerlaan in Utrecht.

 Would you like more information and/or to apply?

  • If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Karen Groeneveld at karen.groeneveld@hku.nl;
  • Applications will be accepted through Sunday, December 15, 2024, via the “Apply” button;
  • The job interviews will take place in week 51. The interview will be conducted by a program director and a core faculty member. They will ultimately advise the director on the final selection;
  • A cover letter is not required. However, we would like to receive your resume and your answers to the following questions, in your own words, so that we can get a good idea of what you bring to the table:
  1. What appeals to you about this job opening?
  2. As an educational producer, what skills do you bring to the table?
  3. When do you consider an event—one that you’ve organized—to be a success?

This position is being advertised both internally and externally. In the event of equal qualifications, internal candidates will be given priority. In our selection process, we recognize the value that diversity brings to our organization. Recruiting agencies are asked not to contact us regarding this position.
