The number of newcomers to the Netherlands is on the rise. At LOWAN, we are also seeing an increase in requests for assistance. Providing education for this group of newcomer children poses significant challenges for school organizations. The LOWAN-PO team supports schools and school boards in providing education for newcomers and will be expanding with two new positions starting in the new school year.
Content Advisor (0.6–1.0 FTE)
You will answer initial questions from elementary school staff members. This might include an internal coordinator who has concerns about the school-wide approach or a teacher who is working with a newcomer in their class for the first time. The questions can range from educational and organizational matters to, at times, financial issues. You will primarily answer these questions via phone, email, or MS Teams.
Subject Matter Expert for Curriculum Pathways (0.6–1.0 FTE)
This school year, we launched the LOWAN-PO learning pathways. The next step is to support schools in working with these learning pathways. How can you get started in a focused way?
As a subject matter expert, you will organize online meetings to provide schools with effective guidance, visit schools to offer support, and develop new resources to assist them. You will also work purposefully on the further development of the curriculum.
LOWAN-PO is part of the PO-Raad. The employment contract will therefore be administered by the PO-Raad.
In addition to a pleasant work environment within a motivated team that fosters an informal yet professional work culture, we offer an excellent benefits package:
LOWAN-PO supports elementary schools that provide initial educational support to newcomers. Municipalities, school districts, educational support organizations, and other partners in the education sector—such as curriculum developers and publishers—can also turn to LOWAN-PO for assistance. In doing so, LOWAN-PO works closely with the PO-Raad.
The PO-Raad is the sector organization for primary education. The association represents the common interests of school organizations in primary education, special primary education, and (secondary) special education. In addition, the PO-Raad drives innovative projects and knowledge sharing for primary and special education. Quality is our top priority. The student is at the center. The internal organizational culture is professional and informal. The PO-Raad is an organization where all doors are open and everyone is approachable.
Would you like to learn more about any of these positions? Please contact LOWAN Chair Marieke Postma (06-28 92 57 68) or Project Manager Boudien Bakker (06 52 85 87 32).
