More about this organization
Six World Wildlife Fund staff members are smiling for the camera in a tropical rainforest, wearing WWF shirts.

Would you like to work alongside passionate colleagues to create a world where people and nature thrive? And help build a “nature-positive” impact in the world’s most biodiverse landscapes by mobilizing people? That’s what you’ll be doing when you work at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF-NL).

WWF-NL is a professional and dynamic organization with a casual work environment based in Zeist. The working language is English.

WWF-NL consists of the following departments: Conservation, Engagement, Organization & Talent Development, and Finance & Operations. WWF-NL works to restore biodiversity in 14 different landscapes, one of which is the Dutch landscape. The work on the Dutch landscape falls under Public Affairs. This team does not belong to a specific department but reports directly to the CEO. The Public Affairs team plays a central role within WWF-NL because, as an international organization, we play an influential role in increasing social and political support for nature conservation. Public Affairs’ strategies make a significant contribution to achieving nature conservation results. Furthermore, the strategy in the Dutch landscape serves as an important bridge to our international work.

To support the implementation of the strategy in the Dutch landscape, the Public Affairs team is looking for a

Mid-Level Strategy Consultant, Netherlands

(40 hours per week)

Will you help us harness nature as an ally in addressing the spatial challenges we face in the Netherlands? So that we can demonstrate how natural solutions can contribute to climate adaptation, rising sea levels, flood protection, a sustainable food system, and an attractive landscape in which to live and work. Think of creating more space for living rivers and natural climate buffers to mitigate weather extremes, promoting natural processes in coastal protection, restoring tidal flows in the delta, and accelerating the transition to nature-friendly agriculture.

Are you someone who can help us chart this course? Someone who can inspire policymakers, politicians, businesses, and citizens to work together on green solutions to the challenges we face? Are you someone who would like to support our team members in this effort across a wide range of areas, both practically and substantively? If so, don’t hesitate—apply today.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • You will help achieve the organizational goals for our strategy in the Netherlands by supporting your colleagues at WWF-NL.
  • You will contribute to the development and promotion of Nature-Based Solutions for climate adaptation and the agricultural transition, both in terms of content and process, and you will help the team translate the strategy into relevant activities and programs.
  • You will support and oversee research projects and assignments that underpin our work.
  • You will support the implementation of advocacy strategies and carry them out in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • You identify and analyze external and political developments that are relevant to WWF-NL and know how to translate these into opportunities to strengthen the strategy for the Netherlands.
  • You will work with communications advisors and press officers to develop communications materials for various target audiences, and you will contribute to fundraising activities alongside colleagues in our Engagement department.

You will contribute to planning and monitoring, knowledge management, and reporting on the achievement of results.

What we're looking for

  • A relevant associate's or bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrable work experience in the areas of political and administrative processes or decision-making, environmental management, or strategic communication.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of national political and social debates at the intersection of nature, biodiversity, water, and climate.
  • You are enthusiastic and practical, decisive and positive.
  • You have an eye for opportunities to influence public and political debate.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and excellent command of both spoken and written Dutch and English.

Core Values

You identify with the core values of WWF-NL:

  • Courage
  • Integrity
  • Respect
  • Collaborate

What do we offer?

  • An office surrounded by nature;
  • Great coworkers and the opportunity to build an international network;
  • Tuesday and Thursday afternoon get-togethers (alternating) and vegetarian lunches in the company cafeteria;
  • A 40-hour workweek. Initially, a one-year contract will be offered with a one-month probationary period;
  • A competitive salary based on the Dutch nonprofit sector; the minimum gross monthly salary for the position is 3,477 EUR and the maximum monthly salary is 4,743 EUR, depending on relevant experience (based on a 40-hour workweek) (Note: due to the maximum salary, we cannot sponsor a residence permit for individuals over the age of 30);
  • Employees also receive a personal budget, consisting of 8% vacation pay and 2.08% flexible budget, and are entitled to 6 weeks of leave per year (based on a 40-hour workweek);
  • We encourage flexible work arrangements and the use of public transportation and bicycles for commuting and business travel. Commuting expenses are reimbursed based on second-class public transportation fares (NS Business Card);
  • At WWF-NL, we operate on a hybrid model, which allows employees to alternate between working in the office and working from home.

Information and Procedure

Are you interested in this position and do you fit the profile described above? If so, we invite you to apply using the application form on our Careers website. The deadline for applications is May 29.

To work at WWF-NL, you need a valid work permit.

If you have any questions about this application process, please contact Babette Vanlancker (Recruiter) at bvanlancker@wwf.nl. If you have any questions about the position, please contact Kirsten Haanraads, Head of the Netherlands Program, at khaanraads@wwf.nl.
