Are you the person who can help streamline the entire administrative process for our students, from the day they enroll until graduation? Do you have proven experience with student information systems and administrative workflows in the education sector? The Academy of Architecture (AvB) is looking for a Student Affairs / Academic Support Officer.
As a member of the academic office staff, you will ensure the smooth and organized management of academic progress records, from the moment students enroll at the academy until they complete their program and receive their diploma. You will be responsible for the pre-master’s programs (preparatory courses) and the minors (introductory programs for bachelor’s students) that students can take at our institution. You will be involved in the admissions process for these students and will manage the credit administration. In addition, you will support the education manager with various tasks at the intersection of organization, administration, and educational content.
You will maintain contact with students, faculty members, the coordinators of the pre-master’s programs and minors, the academic manager, and the academic advisors.
You will be part of the academic office team, which consists of five staff members and a coordinator. You will also work closely with the two staff members in the academic support department. Your supervisor is the faculty manager.
Together with your colleagues from the academy and the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK), of which the AvB is a part, you will work on optimizing and configuring the administrative systems and serve as a sounding board regarding the key tools you use, particularly the student information system Educator and the continued rollout of the digital learning environment (Leerpodium).
The Amsterdam Academy of Architecture is one of the leading design schools in the Netherlands. We offer master’s-level education and research in the three disciplines of architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture (MSc). The academy also offers pre-master’s programs and minors in all disciplines. The (partially) interdisciplinary curriculum is one of the pillars of our educational vision. A distinctive feature of the Academy’s design programs is the educational model: the combination of study and work, known as the concurrent model. Classes are held in the evenings from Monday through Thursday. On Fridays , classes are held during the day.
The academy is an inspiring, international community of 350 students, approximately 35 full-time staff members, and around 350 visiting lecturers each year, drawn from the (international) professional field. The academy is part of the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) and is housed in a national historic landmark on Waterlooplein in the heart of Amsterdam.
We are building a sustainable future. The academy recognizes the urgency of the situation: many of the challenges related to climate change, water issues (sea-level rise and flooding), the circular economy and circular construction, and declining biodiversity (to name just a few) are complex spatial challenges. The academy sees it as part of its responsibility to equip future generations of designers in the spatial domain with the necessary knowledge and skills to play a meaningful role.
The Academy of Architecture consists of a small team of permanent and temporary staff members. Within the academy, we strive to create an inclusive learning and working environment that serves as the foundation for quality, new ideas, and creativity. Students, faculty, and staff should feel welcome and valued at every level of the organization and be given the opportunity to develop their talents. This is a priority in the curriculum, the composition of student and faculty groups, and within the team itself. We form a close-knit community that we cherish.
The Academy of Architecture offers a pleasant working environment in central Amsterdam. The position is classified in pay scale 8 (minimum €3,091.78 and maximum €4,085.57 for a full-time appointment). The AHK offers attractive terms of employment in accordance with the collective labor agreement for higher professional education (CAO-HBO), such as an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, an ABP pension plan, generous vacation time, good travel expense reimbursement, and opportunities for study and professional development. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of extension. If you join the AHK, we will require a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) upon commencement of employment.
