Are you the person who can help streamline the entire administrative process for our students, from the day they enroll until they graduate? Do you have proven experience with student information systems and administrative workflows in the education sector?
As a member of the academic office staff, you ensure that academic progress records are managed smoothly and systematically, from the moment students enroll at the academy until they complete their program and receive their degree. In this role, you will be involved in the admissions process for master’s, pre-master’s, and minor students, and you will be responsible for managing credit records.
You will maintain contact with students, faculty members, the three program directors, the academic manager, the academic advisor, and the professional practice coordinator. You will be part of the academic office team, which consists of five staff members and a coordinator. You will also collaborate with the two staff members in the academic support department. Your supervisor is the faculty manager.
Together with your colleagues from the academy and the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK), of which the AvB is a part, you will work on optimizing and setting up the administrative systems and serve as a sounding board regarding the key tools you use, particularly the student information system Educator and the digital learning environment currently under development (Leerpodium). In addition, you will assist in organizing exchange programs with design programs abroad. We provide a comprehensive onboarding program, during which you will have the opportunity to get to know our academy and our work processes. You will shadow the colleague you are set to succeed for several months in connection with their retirement.
The Amsterdam Academy of Architecture is one of the leading design schools in the Netherlands. We offer master’s-level education and research in the three disciplines of architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture (MSc). What sets the Academy’s design programs apart is its educational model: the combination of study and work, known as the concurrent model. Additionally, the (partially) interdisciplinary curriculum is one of the pillars of our educational vision. The academy forms an inspiring, international community of 350 students, approximately 35 full-time staff members, and around 350 guest lecturers each year, drawn from the (international) professional field.
The academy is part of the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) and is housed in a complex of buildings designated as national monuments on Waterlooplein in the heart of Amsterdam. Get to know some of our students and staff here: https://www.ahk.nl/humansofthearts
We are building a sustainable future. The academy recognizes the urgency of the situation: many of the challenges related to climate change, water issues (sea-level rise and flooding), the circular economy and circular construction, and declining biodiversity (to name just a few) are complex spatial challenges. The academy sees it as part of its responsibility to equip future generations of designers in the spatial domain with the necessary knowledge and skills to play a meaningful role.
The Academy of Architecture consists of a small team of permanent and temporary staff. Within the academy, we strive to create an inclusive learning and working environment that serves as the foundation for quality, new ideas, and creativity. Students, faculty, and staff should feel welcome and valued at every level of the organization and be given the space to develop their talents. This is a priority in the curriculum, the composition of student and faculty groups, and within the team. We form a close-knit community that we cherish.
The Academy of Architecture offers a pleasant working environment in central Amsterdam. The position is classified in pay grade 8 (minimum €2,756.90 and maximum €3,691.27 for a full-time appointment). The AHK offers attractive terms of employment in accordance with the collective labor agreement for higher professional education (CAO-HBO), such as an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, an ABP pension plan, generous vacation time, good travel allowance, and opportunities for study and professional development. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of extension. If you join the AHK, we will require a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) upon commencement of employment.
