What will you be doing?
As a Communications Officer, you’ll ensure that everyone knows what’s happening at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. You’ll turn our story into engaging content, choose the right channel, and make sure the message is clear, appealing, and impactful.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Creating, editing, and publishing content on the website and intranet
- Drafting and sending newsletters and service emails
- Manage social media posts and DMs
- Keeping track of the content calendar and schedule
- Assisting with event planning
- Contribute to the development, procurement, and distribution of communication tools.
What are you bringing?
You are a creative and articulate communications specialist who thinks on your feet and enjoys contributing ideas. You enjoy writing and are skilled at it, have an eye for visuals, and know how to reach a young audience. You enjoy helping to organize events.
You also have:
- College-level work and thinking skills and some experience in marketing or communications
- Experience with content creation, social media, and web editing
- Excellent writing skills in flawless Dutch and English
- Proficiency with CMS systems (experience with Typo3 is a plus)
- An eye for design; experience with Canva and Adobe is a plus
- Strong planning skills and a proactive work ethic.
Who are we?
The Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) comprises the Breitner Academy, the Academy of Architecture, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the Netherlands Film Academy, the Reinwardt Academy, and the Academy of Theatre and Dance. With a wide range of specialized higher professional education programs at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels, the AHK prepares students for careers in the national and international arts, culture, and heritage sectors. The AHK’s support services are centralized within the Service Bureau, including the Communications Department.
You will be working within the Communications team, which consists of eight people in total. We collaborate closely with our communications colleagues from the six academies and with colleagues from other departments within the Service Bureau, including the IT & Automation and HR departments.

What do we offer?
You will be working in an inspiring and informal work environment in the heart of Amsterdam. We are offering you an initial one-year contract. The gross monthly salary ranges from a minimum of €2,918 to a maximum of €3,890 gross per month based on full-time employment (generic job description: Operational Staff Member – B, scale 7). The AHK offers attractive terms of employment in accordance with the collective labor agreement for higher professional education (CAO-HBO), such as an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, an ABP pension plan, a generous vacation policy, travel allowance, and opportunities for study and professional development.
