About the SER

The Social and Economic Council (SER) advises the government and parliament on the broad outlines of socio-economic policy. The SER also facilitates agreements and covenants and performs administrative tasks. Independent members appointed by the Crown, employers, and employees work together within the SER. The organization has a staff of approximately 140 full-time equivalents.

SER staff work in a particularly dynamic environment. They operate in close proximity to the political sphere, collaborating with a wide range of civil society organizations that often have divergent interests. Policy officers work in project teams to address current socioeconomic issues. The organization has an informal atmosphere.

About the role

You will be part of the General Secretariat and report to the General Secretary. Under the guidance of the Executive Secretary, you will support the executive team in carrying out administrative tasks, managing and overseeing decision-making processes, and collecting, organizing, and editing relevant information. An important part of your work involves providing substantive support and ensuring that various processes run smoothly from start to finish. Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • General tasks in support of the executive team, such as gathering, processing, and analyzing information, and preparing concise memos on policy issues;
  • You will provide substantive support in organizing meetings and networking events;
  • You will help coordinate and prepare the content for the chairperson’s speeches and presentations;
  • You monitor the status of advisory processes in various committees so that (interim) discussions in various SER meetings (Executive Committee, Crown Members’ Meeting, and Council Meeting) can be identified and prepared in a timely manner;
  • You will prepare brief reports on a number of meetings, including the executive team meeting;
  • You will ensure that actions and agreements resulting from meetings of the executive and policy teams are followed up on;
  • From time to time, you will assist with collecting, processing, and archiving information, such as the interim reports that are sometimes prepared for Council meetings;
  • You will assist with other tasks within the management team.

What are your skills?

You have at least a college-level education and several years of work experience;

  • In this role, it is important that you understand and remain alert to informal and formal relationships, reputational risks, positions, and (political) interests, and respond to them appropriately;
  • Because there are often several projects of varying sizes underway that you need to keep track of and that require the cooperation of others, it is important to effectively coordinate your activities, time, and resources in order to achieve your goals;
  • You will work closely with the executive secretary. We expect that, after a thorough training period, you will be able to successfully complete tasks on your own and take on new responsibilities;
  • In this role, you will share responsibility for organizing and coordinating the activities of the board members and the chairperson. It is essential that you work meticulously to ensure that these activities run smoothly;
  • To provide the management team with accurate and actionable information, you are able to view situations from different perspectives and form your own opinion based on all the necessary information.

What do we offer?

This is a position for 32–38 hours per week, initially for one year, with the prospect of a permanent contract thereafter. The salary ranges from a minimum of €3,750 to a maximum of €4,936 gross per month based on full-time employment (38 hours per week). View the other terms and conditions of employment.
