For its new, temporary program “Strengthening the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Indonesian and Moluccan Communities,” vfonds is seeking a Marketing & Communications Officer (20–24 hours per week) with organizational skills 

From December 1, 2022, through June 30, 2024, vfonds will implement a new temporary program aimed at raising awareness of, strengthening, and preserving the intangible cultural heritage of the Indonesian, Moluccan, and Papuan communities in the Netherlands. For current and future generations. This includes living heritage such as rituals, celebrations, social traditions, dietary customs, symbolism, or a unique craft. This grant program is being implemented with support from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

This program was initiated as part of the “Extra Impulse for Collective Recognition of the Indonesian and Moluccan Communities,” a government initiative launched in 2020 to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Southeast Asia. The initiative focuses on four themes that are important to these communities. One of these is raising awareness of the cultural heritage of these communities. Your role

Your task is to raise awareness of this program among the Indonesian, Moluccan, and Papuan communities in the Netherlands and to encourage organizations and individuals to apply. You will work under the supervision of and in close collaboration with the program coordinator.

The Marketing & Communications Officer is responsible for all marketing, communications, and promotional activities related to the “Keep Your Heritage Alive” grant program, and will organize on-site information sessions throughout the Netherlands through June 2024.

The program will conclude with a festive gathering featuring demonstrations of intangible cultural heritage and a presentation of the results. 

The main responsibilities are:

  • Developing and implementing a communication plan that helps raise national awareness of the grant program among the target audience and encourages as many parties as possible to apply;
  • Developing and implementing (or commissioning the implementation of) a corresponding PR and (social) media strategy to ensure that the program receives ongoing, widespread attention;
  • Identifying communication opportunities and making the most of them to benefit the program;
  • Developing (or commissioning the development of) the necessary communication tools, such as social media posts, newsletters, and presentations;
  • Further developing and maintaining the website;
  • The development and implementation of nationwide promotional activities;
  • Organizing on-site events throughout the Netherlands, in collaboration with the program producer;
  • Managing external parties such as design agencies, web developers, and printers;
  • Developing and organizing a closing event, including the necessary resources.

Your profile

As a Marketing & Communications Officer, you are the crucial link between the program organization and its target groups. You therefore have a demonstrable commitment to and affinity with the Indonesian, Moluccan, and Papuan communities in the Netherlands. You endorse the mission and objectives of the “Keep Your Heritage Alive” program and have a network, or are able to quickly build one within these communities. 

In addition:

  • Are you a communications professional with proven organizational skills;
  • Do you have at least a college-level education and way of thinking;
  • Do you have at least 5 years of experience in marketing and communications;
  • Do you have experience with and enjoy event planning and organization;
  • Are you an excellent communicator with a way with words;
  • Do you have an eye for visual communication and design;
  • Do you have experience reaching and engaging both new and young target audiences;
  • Are you familiar with online tools such as MailChimp, Adobe, and various CMS systems, and do you have no trouble making changes to the website?
  • Are you proactive, results-oriented, and able to adapt quickly and effectively? In short: a true go-getter;
  • You are self-reliant but also work well with others. You are a team player, meticulous, and have integrity;
  • Do you inspire others and work in an environment where quality and trust are paramount?
  • Do you have a Class B driver's license and access to a car?
  • Are you in any way affiliated with an organization that has submitted or plans to submit an application under this program?

  • This position is compensated according to Scale 8 of the Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement (depending on experience, a minimum of €2,836 and a maximum of €4,306 per month based on a 36-hour workweek). The employment contract is for one year, with the possibility of extension until no later than December 31, 2024.
