Do you have a passion for art and culture? Do you want to help create a fair labor market for the cultural and creative sector? Are you an experienced M&C professional? Do you know what it takes to further professionalize an association and raise its profile? Then we’re looking for you!

Marketing & Communications Specialist, Creative Coalition

(24 hours per week)

Who are we?

We are the Creative Coalition. We are an association of 44 advocacy groups from the cultural and creative sector, representing a total of more than 45,000 members. Together, we advocate for the interests of everyone working in the cultural and creative sector. We are committed to ensuring a healthy, safe, and fair labor market in our sector. Fair Practice—including Fair Pay, Fair Share, and Fair Chain—are the Creative Coalition’s priorities for the coming period.

Following its founding phase, the association is currently in a transition toward stabilization. This role places a strong emphasis on connecting and professionalizing the association’s members, building knowledge, and representing the association externally. In recent years, the Creative Coalition, together with its members, has gained an increasingly strong foothold in The Hague’s political arena and has represented the voice of working people. It is partly up to the new M&C staff member to highlight these developments and raise the Coalition’s profile.

If you'd like to learn more about what we do, please visit our website: decreatievecoalitie.nl

Who are we looking for?

You will be working in a dynamic environment with hardworking professionals who run their own practices in the cultural and creative sector. You are passionate about the cultural and creative sector and the labor market challenges it faces.

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who enjoys helping to shape our marketing and communications within a political environment. Someone who is able to translate our mission, strategy, and objectives into marketing and communications policies and who can also oversee their implementation. Building connections with our members is of the utmost importance—after all, that’s what it’s all about. You are a good listener, ask insightful questions, and have strong analytical skills. You’re able to find common ground among many different opinions. You stay the course and know how to align all communications with the mission, strategy, and objectives of the Creative Coalition. You maintain an overview of all activities and their respective budgets.

You will report to the director and work closely with all your colleagues and, depending on the activity, with the board. The board consists of a minimum of five and a maximum of ten members.

The operational team supports the association and the board. The operational team consists of a director (0.8 FTE), an office secretary (0.6 FTE), a project manager (0.8 FTE), a marketing and communications officer (0.6 FTE), and staff hired on a freelance or project basis.

What will you be doing?

  • Helping to formulate and refine the Creative Coalition’s marketing and communications strategy.
  • Translating these into content and website objectives, as well as press and PR activities and other communication and marketing activities for the Creative Coalition.
  • Contribute to the strategic and sustainable development of the Creatieve Coalitie brand and manage the writing style and corporate identity.
  • Ensuring the visibility of the Creative Coalition among all (potential) members and stakeholders, and coordinating activities on behalf of the Creative Coalition (including events and campaigns).
  • Defining the structure of the website in terms of content, layout, etc., and managing it. Ensuring that the submitted texts adhere to the writing style and corporate identity guidelines and that they are appropriate and engaging for the target audience to read.
  • (Co-)authoring and/or editing the submitted communications, such as newsletters, lobbying letters, etc., to ensure they comply with the writing guidelines and corporate style.
  • Monitoring the Creative Coalition’s objectives and communication style, identifying deviations, addressing those involved, and making corrections or ensuring they are made.
  • Drafting press releases and maintaining a list of media contacts.
  • Developing and managing a catalog of products and services for members, consisting in part of offerings from the members themselves.
  • Organizing or co-organizing activities, seminars, and meetings, which are often aimed at expanding knowledge and enhancing professionalism.
  • Creating or organizing physical or digital materials to promote the Creative Coalition.

What do we need?

You are an excellent and effective communicator, both verbally and in writing. You are able to gather information, assess its implications for the Creative Coalition’s objectives, and translate the significance of that information into various forms of communication. You recognize and acknowledge the different roles within the association and know how to leverage that influence positively to achieve the Creative Coalition’s objectives. You recognize and respect diverse opinions, can reach decisions, and act decisively on them. You are effective and efficient, with strong planning and organizational skills. Above all, you are a team player and strive to tackle projects together with the members. You have at least a bachelor’s degree and substantial experience in a similar role.

What do we offer you?

  • This is a salaried position.
  • The position is initially for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension if the candidate proves to be suitable.
  • The position is for 24 hours per week, with a gross salary of up to €2,400 for 24 hours, depending on experience, excluding vacation pay and a 3% year-end bonus.

We don't have an office yet. Depending on where our employees live, we'll look for workspace at members' locations or rent space elsewhere. You'll also work from home.

We strive to achieve a good balance of diverse backgrounds within our board and our organization, including age, sex, gender, experience, and cultural background. We therefore warmly invite all interested candidates to apply.

If you are interested, please email your cover letter and resume by February 25, 2023, to annemarieharmsen@decreatievecoalitie.nl, addressed to Anne-Marie Harmsen. For more information: 06-46613250. Introductory interviews are scheduled for the last week of February and the first week of March.
