WWF-NL is seeking aLandscape Coordinator forSouth America (32–40 hours) for its conservation department.
The Landscape Coordinator for South America will oversee investments in the four South American landscapes in which WWF-NL invests: the Amazon, the Cerrado, the Pantanal, and the Atlantic Forest. In these four landscapes, WWF-NL provides financial and strategic support to seven offices and a regional initiative.
We are looking for a landscape coordinator to help us achieve the following long-term goals:
- Stop deforestation and land conversion, and protect remaining habitats
- Ensure free-flowing and healthy rivers and wetlands
- Restore and connect forests
- Expand the coverage of indigenous territories and community reserves
- Catalyze and scale a nature-positive economy.
The Landscape Coordinator for South America reports directly to Merijn Hougee, Head of the International Land- and Seascapes Team (ILT).
Teamwork
The South American coordination team consists of two landscape coordinators and a junior advisor. You will lead the coordination of our support for the region, with the following main responsibilities:
- Further develop our investment strategy and manage our investments and contractual arrangements for the region;
- Coordinate additional support for the region from our colleagues in the thematic, engagement, and advocacy departments;
- Develop proposals and raise funds to help achieve our objectives in collaboration with our fundraising team;
- Serve as an ambassador for these landscapes within the WWF-NL office and to external stakeholders in the Netherlands.
Are you a strategic thinker capable of developing a vision for nature conservation investments in South America? Do you have experience in the areas mentioned above and possess the skills and drive to succeed in this role?
Tasks and responsibilities
Together with the other landscape coordinator and junior advisor, you will:
- Are responsible for implementing WWF-NL’s investment decisions in South America in accordance with WWF-NL’s annual investment cycle, including contract management and internal and external reporting
- Represent WWF-NL in the development of conservation strategies and identify risks and opportunities related to the conservation strategies of WWF’s South American offices and landscapes
- Advice on the allocation of organizational development funds
- Recommend priorities for WWF-NL’s long-term planning process and coordinate the development and evaluation of proposals from South American offices
- Keep the context analysis for the region up to date and report on overall progress and impact
- Liaise with other WWF offices supporting South America to align investments across the WWF network
- Work closely with WWF-NL conservation teams (Thematic, Green Finance, and Food teams) to foster innovation and thought leadership
- Work with the WWF-NL Engagement Department to ensure the development and delivery of inspiring donor proposals that are aligned with our long-term objectives, as well as timely and interactive reporting and storytelling
- Work with the WWF-NL Science & Impact team to ensure timely and consistent reporting, monitoring, and evaluation of our investments in the region
- Collaborate with key private and public sector stakeholders and research institutions in the Netherlands that focus on relevant issues in the region
- Identify opportunities to leverage WWF resources
- Serve as WWF-NL’s spokesperson for South America to internal and external stakeholders, including (potential) donors and the national media.
Job Requirements
- You have a university degree in a field relevant to the main objectives of our work in South America—or you can provide evidence of academic-level work experience.
- You have at least 7 years of relevant international work experience
- You have a solid understanding of, and preferably experience with, implementing an integrated landscape approach to nature conservation.
- You have experience with program management
- You are motivated by helping to achieve conservation outcomes: you have a keen interest in and affinity for nature and conservation. A background in or field experience with conservation ecology or biodiversity work (in South America) is a plus.
- You are a great team player and are able to collaborate with local and international experts
- You have a keen understanding of organizational dynamics and are able to anticipate internal and external developments
- You are well-organized and comfortable working in a matrix- and network-structured international organization
- You are open-minded, able to connect people and activities across themes and sectors, and have an eye for innovative opportunities and solutions in the field of conservation
- Systematic and organized, with the ability to work under tight deadlines, remain flexible, and handle multiple responsibilities at the same time
- You have an excellent command of English (both spoken and written). Working proficiency in Dutch, Spanish, and/or Portuguese is a plus.

- Salaries that are in line with the standard in the Dutch nonprofit sector; The minimum gross monthly salary for this role is 4,644 EUR and the maximum monthly salary is 6,672 EUR (based on a 40-hour workweek);
- Employees receive a personal budget consisting of an 8% vacation allowance and a 2.08% flexible budget, and are entitled to 6 weeks of vacation per year (based on a 40-hour workweek);
- We encourage flexible work arrangements, the use of public transportation, and biking for work-related travel. Employees receive an NS Business Card for second-class travel to and from work;
- We also have a hybrid work model, so employees can alternate between working from home and from the office.
