The City of Amsterdam is collaborating with the national government to establish a national slavery museum. Through this museum, the City and the national government aim to increase historical awareness and knowledge of this part of our history among a broad audience, both nationally and internationally, and to draw connections to the present. The starting point is a national institution that complements and connects with existing cultural and academic institutions that focus on the history of slavery.
We are seeking three project managers to work together on the creation of the National Slavery Museum. In addition to a social project manager, we are looking for a museum project manager who is familiar with the cultural sector and has a vision for establishing a museum and organizing exhibitions. Furthermore, the City of Amsterdam is recruiting a physical project manager to oversee the construction of the building.
Together, you will work on three tasks: drafting a museum business plan that includes an operational plan and an organizational structure, developing a temporary program, and organizing meetings with stakeholders to build support for the museum’s direction and the future building. The business plan will detail exactly what the museum and its associated knowledge center should look like, both organizationally and in terms of content. This plan will serve as the basis for a final decision on the museum by the municipality and the national government.
