Are you a lawyer with up-to-date knowledge of the General Administrative Law Act and a passion for the performing arts? Then this is the job for you!
The Performing Arts Fund provides multi-year support, various programming and production grants, individual grants, and programs designed to stimulate new initiatives. In addition, the Fund is involved in the international promotion of Dutch performing arts. The organization consists of approximately 80 full-time staff members and a large pool of external advisors.
We believe in the power of diversity—including diversity of gender, age, and cultural background—and therefore welcome candidates who help make our organization more inclusive.
You will be working in the Fund’s Legal Department, which currently consists of two people.
The Performing Arts Fund is the cultural fund for music, theater, musical theater, dance, and festivals in the Netherlands. On behalf of the national government, the Fund provides support for all forms of professional performing arts.
You ensure that staff members implement the Fund’s grant programs in a legally sound manner. You review the eligibility assessments and coach staff members on the proper application of the evaluation criteria. Occasionally, you also review advisory documents.
Through your guidance of staff, clear explanations, and critical analysis, you ensure that the recommendations are fully aligned with our policies. When appeals are filed, you review the documents, reconsider the Fund’s position, and propose a decision on the appeal that does justice to the merits of the case while also taking the appellant’s perspective into account in our deliberations.
As a legal professional, you will also assist in drafting new regulations and amending existing ones. In addition, you will independently perform other tasks that require legal expertise, such as drafting contracts and handling copyright matters.
You are an empathetic legal professional. You take the time to understand a question and seek out an appropriate and legally sound answer. You are familiar with the possibilities and limitations of relevant laws and regulations and know how to apply them in a way that allows us to lawfully provide grants to our applicants. If the rules do not permit it, you are able to communicate this clearly and empathetically.
You enjoy switching between addressing specific questions about a case, handling an appeal process, and contributing ideas for new regulations. You take the time to think things through, but rely on your knowledge and experience to take decisive action. You’re also not afraid to consult with your colleagues in a timely manner.
