Are you an experienced, well-rounded legal advisor with a keen understanding of administrative dynamics? The Amsterdam University of the Arts is seeking a Legal Counsel for its Administrative Office.
What will you be doing?
You will advise the Executive Board on legal and policy matters and serve as the primary point of contact within the organization in this area. When necessary, you will collaborate with external attorneys. You will explore various scenarios, assess plans against relevant laws and regulations, and help draft decisions. In addition, you will assist in drafting regulations and procedures and contribute to the design of the governance structure.
You will actively contribute to complex complaint and appeal procedures involving students or staff, seeking socially and legally sound solutions that align with educational practice. You will be part of the Executive Office, which supports the Board with strategic advice and by identifying relevant developments. You will also collaborate with the policy advisors at the Service Bureau, including the Education and HR departments.
Who are you?
You are an open and articulate advisor. You have a keen sense of political and administrative dynamics and a sharp eye for the interests of both the organization and the students and staff who together make up the AHK. You easily switch between strategic issues and practical solutions. You have strong substantive knowledge and know how to translate your understanding of laws and regulations into clear and persuasive advice. You enjoy collaborating with policy specialists within the organization, but also take independent initiatives to improve AHK’s policies.
What do you bring to the table?
You are a well-rounded legal professional who:
- holds a bachelor’s degree in law;
- has several years of relevant work experience in a complex organization (for example, in an administrative, social, or educational setting);
- is able to analyze effectively and maintain an overview;
- is meticulous and has excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- is flexible and can handle time pressure;
- has persuasive skills and can apply them with the necessary organizational sensitivity;
- is familiar with education law and the complaints process, or is willing to learn more about these areas.
