A job where you can put your construction expertise to good use and also help create a great learning environment for 3,000 art college students: does that sound like the perfect combination? Then this is the job for you!
The AHK Service Bureau is looking for a candidate for the Housing and Facilities Management Department:
Junior Project Manager (0.8 FTE)
Who are we?
The Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) has a unique portfolio of properties, and we are proud of it. Our educational buildings are located in the heart of Amsterdam, and most of them are owned by the university. The portfolio includes a mix of modern buildings with state-of-the-art classrooms, studios, workshops, and performance spaces, as well as national and regional monuments and a few leased properties.
The Housing and Management Department manages the entire real estate portfolio with a small, dedicated team, working closely with the academies. Our team consists of a Head of Housing, two project managers, a technical facility manager, and a facility coordinator. We will soon be welcoming a sustainability coordinator as well. We focus on real estate strategy, project development, new construction, sustainability, technical and facility management, maintenance, and contract management.
The AHK Service Bureau also comprises Corporate Control, Central Administration & Procurement, IT & Automation, Facilities Management, Human Resources, Education, Research, and Communications.
What will you be doing?
As a junior project manager, you’ll help prepare the Amsterdam University of the Arts for the future. With initiative and fresh ideas, you’ll identify opportunities, improve processes, and contribute to innovation within our team. You’re eager to learn, contribute your ideas, and advance to a role as a senior project manager or technical facility manager.
With guidance from an experienced colleague, you’ll get to know the AHK and our buildings inside and out. Before long, you’ll be working independently on the preparation and implementation of a wide range of (long-term) facilities projects.
You will support the senior project manager, technical facility manager, and facility coordinator with their challenges and translate requirements into concrete actions within your own projects. You will also help maintain the Long-Term Maintenance Plan (O-Prognosis) and identify smart ways to combine projects, such as those related to building renovation or sustainability initiatives.
The projects are diverse and challenging: ranging from small-scale renovations and remodeling to maintenance and the energy transition. Sustainability is always a key priority. The AHK aims to be fully energy-neutral by 2035, and you will play an active role in achieving this goal. Through your efforts, you will help create future-proof, sustainable educational buildings where students and staff can learn and work in the best possible environment.
Who are you?
You are a process-oriented thinker with an affinity for real estate, building systems, and facility management. You enjoy planning and organizing, have an eye for detail, and can translate those insights into concrete actions. Working on projects energizes you.
You value teamwork, but you’re also capable of leading projects on your own. You’re constructive, quality-oriented, and always looking for ways to improve. In addition, you’re decisive, able to handle stress, and flexible.
Since you work at an art college, you value social impact and have an affinity for education. Together with us, you’ll set learning goals so that you can grow into an experienced project manager and persuasive advisor.
What do you bring to the table?
- Vocational or higher vocational education (construction engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering).
- Knowledge of architecture or building services.
- You are just starting your career or have a few years of experience as a junior technical manager or work planner.
- Experience in building services engineering, commercial construction, or renovation is a plus.
- You are proactive, contribute ideas for improvements, and have a hands-on approach.
- You take a solution-oriented, interdisciplinary, and practical approach to your work.
- You have strong communication skills and know how to get others on board with your ideas.
- You have the ambition to continue developing yourself, both professionally and personally.
What do we offer?
This role offers a challenging start, focused on the learning and working environment for students and staff within a dynamic team of colleagues, with an office located right in the heart of Amsterdam. Working from home is possible (by arrangement), and we provide the necessary equipment for remote work.
We are offering a one-year contract with the possibility of a permanent position. The position is classified under Scale 10 of the HBO collective bargaining agreement (Advisory Staff Member - B, ranging from €3,609.94 to a maximum of €5,377.13 gross for full-time employment). The starting salary depends in part on your education and experience. We offer a competitive benefits package, including an 8.3% year-end bonus and a solid pension plan. If you join our team, we will require a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) upon your start date.
