This is your chance to help bring concrete solutions to climate and environmental issues to fruition. You’ll be part of a passionate team, working in collaboration with government agencies, businesses, and other organizations. Join an organization where freedom and growth are top priorities. Natuur & Milieu, the leading environmental organization dedicated to a cleaner, greener, and healthier Netherlands, is seeking aJunior Project Manager for Energy & Raw Materials(32–40 hours per week)
You will be working in the Energy & Raw Materials team, part of the Programs department. In your work, the focus is on substance. We delve into areas such as nature-inclusive energy projects, phasing out fossil fuels and raw materials in industry, the circular energy transition, and biobased construction. To this end, we develop realistic solutions. Through policy advocacy and campaigns, we bring these solutions to the attention of politicians, policymakers, businesses, and the media. We also consult with stakeholders on implementation and propose measures to strengthen policies if results fall short.
What does a typical workday look like?
You’ll be working to make the energy system more sustainable and to facilitate the transition to a circular economy in the Netherlands. Your responsibilities will range from conducting analyses on energy savings in households and businesses to encouraging reduced material use, and from drafting effective policy measures to help industry transition to renewable energy. You’ll do this alongside your colleagues in the Energy & Raw Materials team, where no two days are the same.
We still rely heavily on fossil fuels and are extracting more and more raw materials from the earth. These are the main causes of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. That is why we are working to promote energy conservation, make the energy system more sustainable, and advance the circular economy.
- As a junior project manager, you will help conceive, define, lead, and execute projects and studies that drive sustainability efforts. You will do this both within your team and in collaboration with colleagues from Campaigns and External Positioning;
- You will be closely involved in the projects and will support your colleagues by conducting in-depth analyses and translating these into proposals for decision-making, whether externally or within our projects;
- You will perform operational tasks within our projects, such as organizing gatherings, meetings, and workshops;
- You stay up to date on social and political developments in the field. You know how to apply this knowledge to the substantive work within our projects;
- In addition to collaborating with colleagues within Natuur & Milieu, you will actively and professionally engage with organizations outside of Natuur & Milieu.
What we offer
- The salary ranges from €2,983.28 to €4,855.68 based on a 40-hour workweek.
- An excellent benefits package. This includes a laptop and smartphone, a generous travel allowance, 23 days of vacation, and 12 days of reduced working hours for a 40-hour workweek.
- You’ll generally be based at our office in downtown Utrecht, a 15-minute walk from Utrecht Central Station. However, you’ll mainly work wherever best suits your needs. It’s even possible to work from abroad on a temporary basis.
- We will initially offer you a one-year contract. If both parties are satisfied and sufficient funding is available, this can be converted into a permanent position after one year.
- We are committed to increasing diversity within our workforce. We don’t care where you were born, who you love, or what you believe in. If you don’t fully meet the profile below but still think you’re a good fit for this position, we encourage you to apply. We’re primarily interested in your knowledge, skills, experience, and talents—and in how you can use them to benefit our organization.
Who We're Looking For
Our organization embodies social entrepreneurship, and we are looking for a colleague who shares that spirit.
- You have a proven affinity for and knowledge of sustainability, and you’ll make a difference with your keen eye, entrepreneurial spirit, and green outlook on the world;
- You have strong communication and analytical skills and are solution-oriented;
- You have a structured approach to your work and maintain a clear overview, even when dealing with a large number of tasks, and you are also able to adapt to the unexpected challenges that may arise;
- You have at least 2 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the energy sector, the circular economy, or industry;
- You have insight into and an understanding of the political, business, and social interests at play;
- You can clearly articulate your point of view, but you are also open to others’ reasons and act accordingly;
- You have completed a degree program that covered relevant topics such as the energy transition, the circular economy, innovation, biodiversity, sociology, political science, economics, or business administration;
- You enjoy playing board games, going to a silent disco, or playing bocce, and would like to do those things with your coworkers from time to time;
- You're passionate about climate and biodiversity!
