As a Junior Program Manager, you will play an active role in the transition to a more sustainable world. You will work alongside the Program Managers to secure funding for innovative initiatives.
The DOEN Foundation is the leading fund for innovation that, with contributions from the Postcode Lottery and the VriendenLoterij, focuses on innovative pioneers working toward a sustainable, inclusive society that embraces diverse perspectives. Each year, DOEN funds more than 250 pioneers who bring their innovative ideas to life in the fields of the regenerative economy, a society based on solidarity, and radical imagination, both in the Netherlands and abroad. For example, DOEN was there at the very beginning of the OV Fiets, Fairphone, and the Repair Café. And we’re pretty proud of that!
As a Junior Program Manager, you will play an active role in the transition to a more sustainable world. You will work alongside the Program Managers on financing (grants, grants with conditions precedent, and loans) for innovative initiatives, portfolio development, and monitoring initiatives. The focus is on financing pioneers in the regenerative economy who are making an impact in the Netherlands and East Africa.
The team you will be joining currently consists of seven colleagues: four Program Managers, one junior Program Manager, and two Team Members. The junior Program Manager is supervised (both in terms of content and function) by the Program Managers, who also serve as HR Coordinators.
What exactly are you going to do?
- You are constantly on the lookout for sustainability pioneers and innovations in the Netherlands and East Africa that facilitate the transition to a regenerative economy: an economy focused on restoring natural systems and creating a sustainable future. The themes we are working on include: landscape restoration/regenerative agriculture, the blue economy, circular business practices (alternative materials and sustainable consumer products), community initiatives, and sustainable energy;
- You will identify, select, and evaluate funding applications within the Regenerative Economy team. You will be actively involved in drafting “brief” funding proposals;
- You manage your own portfolio, which currently focuses on circular business practices and sustainable consumer products;
- You will analyze market developments, trends, and reports at the request of the program managers;
- You will coordinate evaluations, communication projects, and networking events;
- You are up to date on the latest developments in the transition to a regenerative society in the Netherlands and beyond, and you proactively share this knowledge;
- You will communicate on behalf of and represent the DOEN Foundation, the focus areas of the Regenerative Economy team, as well as the National Postcode Lottery;
- You actively use your knowledge and network to connect pioneers with one another, both domestically and internationally;
- You seek collaboration with colleagues from other teams and actively contribute to DOEN as an organization.
We want you for this position because;
- You have a college-level education and equivalent work experience; in addition, you have at least 3–4 years of relevant work experience . Experience within the (international) context in which DOEN operates—including in the fields of circular business and/or the regenerative economy—is a plus;
- You have expertise in financing and are familiar with impact-driven early-stage entrepreneurs and other pioneers;
- Your proven commitment to and, if applicable, network within the field of Stichting DOEN and DOEN Participaties, as a financier of transitions;
- You believe the following competencies are a good fit for you: innovation, entrepreneurship, negotiation, collaboration, and integrity. In addition, you are analytical, capable of delivering results, and skilled at planning and organizing;
- You have a good command of both spoken and written Dutch and English.
What do we offer?
- A gross monthly salary between €4,450 and €5,200 (based on a 40-hour workweek).
- An excellent pension plan.
- Good work-life balance: 28 vacation days per year based on a 40-hour workweek and flexible working hours.
- The opportunity to make a difference and contribute in a meaningful way to a green, creative, and socially inclusive society.
- An interesting and varied job in a casual organization with a professional culture and motivated colleagues.
- The opportunity to continue your professional development.
- A 36–40-hour workweek and a one-year contract with the possibility of extension to a permanent position.
- Exercise and relaxation are good for you. There are free boot camp, Pilates, and yoga classes. Or hop into the massage chair every now and then to unwind. You can also visit over 135 museums for free and get discounts at places like theaters and movie theaters.
- Opportunity to participate in project visits and 3 days (based on a 40-hour workweek) of volunteer work during working hours each year.
- You’ll be working in our sustainable office building, within walking distance of Amsterdam Zuid station; that’s why you’ll receive an NS Business Card as standard, which allows you to travel for free throughout the Netherlands, even outside of working hours.
Where will you be working?
The DOEN Foundation and its investment arm, DOEN Participaties, are home to approximately 45 passionate, enterprising, and dedicated colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Diversity is the perfect breeding ground for creativity, innovation, and collaboration. It may go without saying, but we’ll say it anyway: if you believe you can make a valuable contribution to our organization, you’re welcome here. Regardless of your background, religion, age, ability to work, or beliefs.
