Junior Backend Developer

We are looking for a Junior Backend Developer to join our Digital and Data team. We’re seeking an entry-level candidate interested in building and developing digital platforms and products, who will use their knowledge to deliver tangible results at an agency that places a strong emphasis on social impact. The Digital and Data team consists of a group of smart and enthusiastic consultants and specialists. The team comprises approximately 20 colleagues—data scientists, data analysts, and developers—who use digital tools to support consulting projects across various product lines. The assignments range from an application platform for healthcare institutions to a rate analysis for childcare. You can learn a lot from the smart and independent-minded colleagues at Berenschot.

What will you be doing?

At Berenschot, we use our own platform for a wide range of projects, allowing us, for example, to share dashboards with our clients or colleagues. To this end, we’d love to work with you to build Python Web APIs and SQL databases in the Azure cloud as the foundation for the platform. When developing projects, we therefore prefer to collaborate in Azure DevOps using the agile methodology. As a Junior Backend Developer, you’ll have the opportunity to work with us to develop new applications in this environment. For example, we’d like to create a secure environment for sharing and retrieving documents with our clients. Furthermore, we often collect data files from various (online) sources for our colleagues and clients. To do this, it’s useful to link them together in a smart way so they can be displayed at the same level in, for example, a Power BI dashboard.

As a Junior Backend Developer, you will:

• actively contribute to the multidisciplinary team and the product lines;
• develop your own applications/API in our Azure environment;
• testing functionalities using a DevOps pipeline;
• call these functions using API scripts that you write in Python;
• making (online) data sources accessible and linking them intelligently.

Here are some ways you can help:

• building new platforms and products more efficiently;
• customers and colleagues to easily and securely share large files via the online platform.

What do you bring to the table?

• Proficiency in Dutch is a must
• a completed university degree with a significant focus on programming (econometrics, data science, computer science),
• You have strong analytical skills and enjoy working with numbers,
• You're curious about Azure and working in DevOps,
• You have a proactive attitude and are able to get your colleagues on board with your approach,
• You combine analytical thinking with strong communication skills, a results-oriented approach, and a keen sense of business and customer service,
• experience with Python.
