Information Specialist, Study and Reading Room
16–36 hours per weekAs an Information Specialist in the Study and Reading Room at our Research Services department, you play an essential role in the Rijksmuseum’s analog and digital information services. An important aspect of this role is supporting researchers in consulting the collection of the Rijksprentenkabinet and the Special Collections of the Library. You are ready to answer questions from researchers and scholars and enjoy sharing knowledge about the services of Research Services, both in person and through our online channels.
These are your main responsibilities:
- Assistance with viewing print works on paper from the National Print Room and the Library’s Special Collections.
- Developing and providing instructions on how to search for information and publications in library systems and databases.
- With your way with words and creative mind, you’ll help manage communications within the Research Services department and write newsletters and online blogs about new developments.
Working at the Rijksmuseum
You will be working in the Research Services department, which is responsible for the information and data regarding the collection and the organization. In addition, the department manages and develops one of the world’s leading academic libraries in the field of art history, the Rijksmuseum Research Library. As a Study and Reading Room Information Specialist, you will primarily be based in the Study Room—the space adjacent to the historic Cuypers Library—and you will contribute to the department’s mission: facilitating innovative and interdisciplinary scholarly research and supporting general operations.
As an Information Specialist in the Study and Reading Room, you will serve as the face of the Rijksmuseum Research Library and work as part of a dedicated team comprising colleagues from Library Administration, Collection Information and Archives, Collection IT, and Stacks Research Services.

Together with the team, we keep two galleries open six days a week, which requires flexibility and a willingness to work on Saturdays every few weeks and, very occasionally, in the evenings for exclusive events. You are someone who can ensure the proper handling of fragile, unique collection pieces. You also have:

- a bonus in accordance with the Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement when you have to work evening shifts at events;
