The Catharijneconvent Museum is located in the heart of Utrecht, in a beautiful medieval convent building. It is the national museum dedicated to the art and heritage of Christianity in the Netherlands. The museum curates a unique art collection and showcases it through inspiring and high-profile exhibitions and activities throughout the Netherlands. As a result, more and more visitors are finding their way to our museum! In the coming years, the museum will therefore undergo extensive renovations so that we can continue to welcome visitors in a pleasant setting. The museum will be under construction for several years, and this also means that the organization will continue to evolve.

We currently work with more than 63 colleagues and many volunteers to ensure that every visitor has a wonderful museum experience. Precisely because of this growth in visitor numbers, our operations team needs additional support to maintain the quality of our services and improve them wherever possible. Will you join us at this special place with our wonderful colleagues? We’re looking for you! You’ll start on November 1, 2022, in a new position within the Operations Department:


HR Advisor (32 hours per week)

We are looking for an HR advisor who thrives on developing HR policies and anything that contributes to employee satisfaction. You will provide both solicited and unsolicited advice on various issues, such as organizational development and the further development of operational activities, and you will tackle the resulting tasks with energy and efficiency, both in practical and procedural terms.


What will you be doing?

  • You are responsible for human resources (excluding payroll) at the operational, tactical, and strategic levels;
  • You will be responsible for everything that contributes to employee satisfaction and well-being, such as the further development of HR policies, employee benefits, diversity and inclusion, staffing and organizational development, workplace management, volunteer policies, and hybrid work;
  • Together with the Head of Operations, the Technical Services Department, and the IT staff member, you are responsible for creating a pleasant work environment with optimal office facilities so that everyone can work comfortably;
  • You assist managers with performance reviews and provide advice on personal development and training;
  • You will also assist managers with recruiting new colleagues—for example, by writing job postings that are far more effective than this one—and help implement and digitize onboarding and offboarding procedures, as well as draft the corresponding contracts;
  • You keep a close eye on how employees are doing, assist managers with absenteeism support, and ensure compliance with the Gatekeeper Act;
  • You will implement collective bargaining agreements and other binding agreements regarding employment and employee benefits;
  • You will handle routine HR tasks, such as updating institutional regulations, GDPR policies, and occupational health and safety policies.



What do you bring to the table?

To carry out the tasks described above, we are looking for someone who truly enjoys helping colleagues as best as possible. You have strong interpersonal skills, a good sense of humor, and know exactly when your colleagues need your knowledge and expertise. In addition, the following skills are important:

  • You have a few years of verifiable work experience in the field of HR;
  • You are independent, analytical, have a keen sense of organization, and are practical;
  • You are meticulous and work in an organized manner;
  • Your knowledge of relevant laws and regulations and employment law is up to date;
  • You have experience with the Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement, or you can quickly get up to speed on it;
  • You have knowledge of key topics such as diversity and inclusion and CSR, and know how to prioritize these within Operations and HR;
  • You have strong communication skills; you can quickly get to the heart of the matter, both verbally and in writing;
  • You’re tech-savvy, have excellent proficiency in MS Office, have experience working with HR software, and pick up new applications quickly.

A contract for 24–32 hours per week at an organization with a diverse team of professional colleagues, where you will work together to take the museum to even greater heights. The museum offers competitive terms of employment in accordance with the Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement and actively encourages personal development and training opportunities.

The position is classified in pay grade 8 or 9, depending on experience. We are pleased to offer you a one-year contract, and if you prove to be a good fit, there is a possibility of a permanent contract.
