HKU Utrecht
Conservatory offers bachelor’s and graduate programs in the field of
music. These programs include various specializations across 35 different
majors in classical music, historical performance practice, jazz and pop,
Musician 3.0, and music education. In addition, HKU Utrecht
Conservatory organizes many projects and concerts. In this way, it makes a significant
contribution to the cultural life of Utrecht.
The lead instructor for Jazz & Pop Piano works closely with instructors from the
Jazz & Pop department. At the Utrecht Conservatory, close
collaboration with other departments is a given. In this role, you will be
responsible for guiding talented young musicians as they
prepare for a professional career.
What will you be doing?
- You
will be involved in and help shape the development of the curriculum for jazz
and pop pianists, based on a broad perspective on their career prospects.
- You will teach Jazz & Pop piano as a major subject to
both Bachelor’s and Master’s students, as well as to students in the preparatory program and
pre-master’s program.
- You
will be responsible for developing and implementing cross-departmental and cross-division
educational programs, such as group classes, projects, etc. You
will serve on relevant evaluation committees (including
the educational and administrative processing of these programs).
What are we looking for?
- A
teaching qualification for higher professional education and excellent pedagogical and teaching
skills (please provide references);
- Demonstrable experience in the field of comparable
education;
- A
broad musical background and knowledge, with experience
in various musical applications and genres being a plus.
- Active on a national and international level as
a performing musician in a variety of settings, with a clear vision of the
current, dynamic professional landscape;
- You have strong communication
skills, are socially adept, and work well as part of a team;
- You have a
proactive and flexible attitude toward work;
- You
have a good command of Dutch and English.
What do we offer?
- For this position, we offer a salary in accordance with the
HBO collective bargaining agreement, as well as attractive benefits;
- The gross monthly salary—depending on education and experience—
for full-time
employment ranges from a minimum of €4,174 to a maximum of €6,360 (scale 11), excluding an 8% vacation allowance
and a year-end bonus (8.3%);
- This is a temporary position starting
September 1, 2025, for one year, with the possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance;
- The secondary
employee benefits are excellent, including a generous leave policy, membership in
the ABP pension fund, sports and recreational facilities, and a travel allowance
for commuting;
