- ENGLISH BELOW -

Do you want to help build a healthy and inclusive world?
Working at the Leprosy Foundation means working toward a world without leprosy—a world where leprosy no longer leaves people with severe physical and psychological consequences. Because international efforts to combat leprosy have proven effective. Effective through the successful treatment of leprosy patients. Effective through the preventive treatment of close contacts to prevent further transmission. Effective through education and training of healthcare workers and (former) leprosy patients, thereby eliminating the need for disabilities, discrimination, and exclusion.

A world without leprosy is thus a concrete and realistic goal. We aim to achieve this by 2040. This does, however, require (financial) resources and dedicated staff. Do you want to help make this achievable goal a reality? Are you a people-oriented manager with experience in international cooperation and in inspiring and leading a team of passionate professionals? Then apply for this challenging position at the Leprosy Foundation’s international office in the heart of Amsterdam!

The Leprosy Foundation has offices in Mozambique, India, Indonesia, Nepal, and Brazil, but is currently undergoing an organizational transition to become an international alliance of independent NGOs: the NLR Alliance. At the Amsterdam office, the Program and Medical Technology departments were merged this year to form the Programs, Research & Partnerships department. The merger reflects the close collaboration that already existed and the changing role of the Dutch office within the NLR Alliance. To lead this new department and ensure a smooth transition, we are immediately seeking an inspiring, strategic, and results-oriented:

Head of Programs, Research & Partnerships

The Programs, Research & Partnerships Department consists of 15 dedicated staff members. The department is divided into the following three clusters, each led by a coordinator:

  • Alliances & Partnerships
  • Research and Policy Advocacy
  • Institutional Fundraising & Proposal Development

What will you be doing as Head of the Programs, Research & Partnerships Department?

  • You will lead, coach, and motivate employees; establish clear guidelines and set specific goals for results and quality with team members; ensure a clear division of roles and responsibilities within the department; and encourage collaboration among team members.
  • You are a member of the management team and share responsibility for the organization-wide strategy, organizational development, and culture. In addition, you serve as a sounding board for the CEO.
  • In collaboration with the department, you will develop departmental policies regarding programs, research, innovation, knowledge development, partnership building, policy advocacy, and institutional fundraising, and translate these into clear frameworks for annual and multi-year plans, budgets, and objectives.
  • You will guide the department in implementing plans and projects, ensure that work is carried out with a focus on quality and impact, monitor progress toward set goals, and make adjustments as needed.
  • You will develop and oversee the alliance-wide learning pathway and establish the frameworks for reviews and evaluations of thematic and country programs. In addition, you will oversee the monitoring and progress of the established goals and performance indicators.
  • You will oversee and guide the decentralization process and the formation of alliances, and coordinate with the Management Team regarding the necessary changes in the international office.
  • You will oversee the development and implementation of the alliance-wide multi-year strategy and drive results and impact on the three zeros (Zero Transmission, Zero Disability, and Zero Exclusion) using the central Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (PMEL) cycle.
  • You will build and maintain a broad network of strategic partners and donors and represent the organization in dealings with external organizations and partnerships.

What are you offering?

  • University-level work and thinking
  • A strategic thinker and experienced people manager who can inspire and motivate professionals and has a strong understanding of operational workflows
  • Verifiable work experience (at least 10 years) in a similar position
  • A strategic networker with in-depth knowledge of and a network for international cooperation, as well as proven experience in strategic policy influence, lobbying, and advocacy.
  • Knowledge and experience in partner countries is a definite plus
  • Experience in international (public) health is preferred
  • Has a proven network in the development cooperation sector
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Dutch and English
  • Strong international communication skills

What do we offer?

  • A challenging position within a dynamic international organization;
  • A passionate and knowledgeable team dedicated to our mission;
  • A salary, depending on your knowledge and experience, ranging from €5,151 to €6,732 gross per month based on a full-time contract (38 hours is considered full-time);
  • 8% vacation pay and 4% year-end bonus on an annual basis;
  • Attractive benefits package (including a pension plan);
  • A one-year contract with the possibility of renewal;
  • Opportunities for personal growth and development.

About the Leprosy Foundation
The Leprosy Foundation is committed to putting an end to the age-old disease of leprosy once and for all. Every year, 200,000 new cases of leprosy are diagnosed, and millions of people continue to suffer the severe consequences of leprosy due to discrimination and exclusion. This is unnecessary, as further transmission can be prevented through timely detection and treatment. In addition to providing aid, the Leprosy Foundation funds scientific research to enable the global implementation of treatment methods proven to be effective.

The Leprosy Foundation combats leprosy through local offices in Mozambique, India, Indonesia, Nepal, and Brazil, as well as through international partners. Our international office in Amsterdam employs approximately 40 people, and our country offices have 200 staff members. The Leprosy Foundation is an ANBI with CBF accreditation and receives support from 45,000 donors and leading institutional donors, including the National Postcode Lottery. Internationally, we are known as NLR, until No Leprosy Remains. The Leprosy Foundation plays a leading role in the International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Organizations (ILEP).
