The MDA department ensures that new materials are acquired, described, and processed; that publications are made available via open access; and that available metadata is managed effectively. The department’s expertise is utilized for advisory services and policy development in these areas. Due to the growth of this department, we have created a new position that, in addition to overseeing the daily operations of part of the department, monitors new developments, collects, processes, and analyzes management information, and is responsible for further process improvement. Naturally, this involves close collaboration with the staff of the MDA department and various other departments at the UBL.

Among other things, you will be expected to:

  • directly supervises the staff in the department, including the metadata specialists team and the open access team (approximately 7 FTE).
  • acts as a substitute in the absence of the department head;
  • works with the head of the MDA department to develop policies aimed at improving services;
  • is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting management information and contributes to the development and implementation of annual and strategic plans;
  • manages and monitors processes within the department, with a focus on continuous improvement;
  • initiates and participates in projects;
  • keeps abreast of developments in the field and maintains contact with other institutions.

Profile

  • A completed relevant associate's degree program;
  • Management experience with expertise in situational leadership;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and experience with library processes and systems;
  • Knowledge of developments in (metadata) standards, including LOD, MARC21, RDA, and BibFrame;
  • Knowledge of developments in the field of open access;
  • You have strong advisory skills and are a team player;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Dutch and English;
  • You possess the following skills: coaching leadership, customer focus, results-oriented management, persuasiveness, and planning and organization.

This is a full-time position for a period of one year, with the prospect of a permanent contract upon satisfactory performance. Salary is determined in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities and depends on education and experience; the maximum gross monthly salary is €5,211 (salary scale 11).
