
Movies that Matter provides a platform for feature films and documentaries about human rights and a just, sustainable society. Films that make you think, give you new insights, and hold up a mirror to yourself. We screen these films at the annual Movies that Matter Festival in The Hague, monthly in seventeen art-house theaters across the country, during (online) film events, and at high schools and vocational colleges throughout the Netherlands. In addition, we support film screenings in countries where human rights and press freedom are at stake.
We are looking for a
Head of Marketing & Communications
32 hours per week
As Head of Marketing & Communications, you play a key role in the festival campaign and in reaching a large and diverse audience for the various activities of Movies that Matter. You are responsible for media outreach, and you coordinate and initiate collaborations with various partners. You have clear ideas about how to reach different target audiences and know how to translate those ideas into compelling promotional materials.
The marketing and communications team also includes a social media manager/web editor, a freelance editor, a freelance application manager, and an intern. We work closely with an external press agency and an external designer.
Your main responsibilities
· developing and implementing strategic marketing and communication plans and associated budgets, and as a result:
· initiating and maintaining strategic partnerships
· Developing (or having developed) online communication tools
· coordinating media outreach
· analyzing audience research
· Preparing reports (substantive and financial)
· Providing operational leadership to the marketing and communications team
Your profile
You...
· possess an academic level of work and thinking, and preferably have a degree in marketing and communication
· have at least three years of work experience in a similar position within a cultural organization or NGO, preferably at a (film) festival
· are skilled in developing communication materials (both print and online)
· have fresh ideas for targeting specific audiences
· have a keen eye for style and design
· enjoys watching movies and has some knowledge of developments in the film industry
· is committed to contributing to the protection of human rights
· have a way with words and speak Dutch and English well
· remains calm and productive under pressure, maintains a clear overview, adapts quickly, and keeps track of deadlines
· Ideally, you have a strong professional network in The Hague

What do we offer you?
Movies that Matter offers a varied position in a pleasant work environment with enthusiastic colleagues. This is a position averaging 32 hours per week. We work from our office in Amsterdam, from the festival office in The Hague, and from home. The employment contract is initially for one year with the possibility of extension. Movies that Matter has its own employment conditions policy. The starting salary is a minimum of €3,200 and a maximum of €3,750 gross per month (for 32 hours). The maximum salary on this scale is €4,275. In addition, we offer excellent benefits.
