Senior Safety Engineer

What will you be doing? 

As a Senior Safety Specialist at the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region, you serve as the link between policy and practice in the field of occupational safety. You will work in a dynamic environment where physical and operational risks are part of the daily routine. You see it as your mission to manage these risks, raise colleagues’ awareness of safe behavior, and implement structural improvements within the organization. In doing so, you will collaborate with operational teams, the internal Health & Safety Advisor, policy advisors, and managers to ensure safety in everything we do.

Specifically, your responsibilities will include:

• Checks the RI&Es and PvAs for currency and completeness.
• Advising supervisors and management on occupational health and safety policies, RI&Es, and risk mitigation measures;
• Keep the policy documents up to date: Working Conditions Policy and Health Policy (VrAA),
• Consults periodically with the VGW Committee in his capacity as an advisor and expert
• Conducting (complex) investigations following incidents and near-misses, including reporting and follow-up;
• Identifying trends and developments in the field of security, and translating them into policy and practical solutions;
• Supporting the implementation of safety measures within the teams;
• Developing, updating, and implementing the annual safety plan;
• Collaborating and consulting with the internal safety officer and safety officers from other Safety Regions.

You have a keen understanding of complex situations and can quickly identify the root cause of a safety issue. You translate analyses into concrete improvement measures and policies.

You understand how a public organization works and know when to take decisive action or, conversely, to seek consensus. You are attuned to political and administrative dynamics and know how to effectively position security within that context.

You'll recognize yourself in this  

• A completed degree in Advanced Safety Engineering (HVK);
• Several years of relevant work experience, preferably within the public or quasi-public sector or a similar high-risk organization;
• Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (such as the Working Conditions Act, ATEX, and PGS guidelines);
• Experience with RI&E, safety awareness, and behavioral change;
• An interest in firefighting and crisis management is a plus.

• Salary in pay grade 10A ranging from €3,935 to €5,357 per month, based on a 36-hour workweek.
• A job for 32–36 hours per week.
• An individual flexible spending allowance (IFSA) of 18.63% of the gross annual salary. This includes the year-end bonus and vacation pay.
• 177 hours of leave based on a 36-hour workweek, including 43.2 hours of overtime. In addition, May 1 and May 5 are fixed days off.
• A one-year appointment, with the possibility of a permanent position.
• A generous pension plan through ABP, 70% of which is paid by us.
• The option to work remotely with a work-from-home allowance of €3 per day.
• Monthly health insurance premium.

• The opportunity to take on an on-call position in addition to your regular job.
