Would you like to play a key role in preparing a landmark ruling in administrative economic law?
About Us
The CBb, with approximately 100 employees the smallest court within the Dutch judiciary and located in The Hague (a short walk from The Hague Central Station), serves as the highest court in economic administrative law and provides guidance on judicial decisions in areas of significant social importance. The CBb handles cases concerning, for example, economic and agricultural subsidies, market regulation, transportation, fertilizers, animal welfare, food quality, health law, financial supervision, consumer protection, competition law, and disciplinary law for accountants. European Union law plays a role in many cases. Together with the other highest courts (the Supreme Court, the Administrative Law Division of the Council of State, and the Central Appeals Tribunal), the CBb is also responsible for legal uniformity and the development of the law in the Netherlands.
We believe a pleasant work environment is very important. We strive to be an inclusive and diverse organization where everyone can be themselves and contribute their knowledge and experience—drawn from a variety of backgrounds, orientations, and professional expertise—to the administration of justice. The atmosphere is informal and collegial. In addition to our professional work, we place a strong emphasis on social activities. For example, the CBb regularly organizes get-togethers, outings, and pub quizzes, and we also pay special attention to our colleagues’ personal lives.
At the CBb, we have an onboarding program. You will be paired with an experienced court auditor who will provide you with personalized training and guidance so that you can quickly start working independently.
What will you be doing?
You consult with the judges on how to handle cases. These are often major, complex, or landmark cases. You ensure that the workflow runs smoothly. During preparation, you can turn to not only the judges but also the other court auditors and/or legal advisors with any questions. Your thorough preparation enables the judges to grasp the case file more quickly. The judges reach their judgment and decision in chambers. You participate in these chambers. Afterward, you draft the judgment and decision into a legally sound, understandable, and acceptable ruling. You contribute at the highest level to discussions regarding developments in the field and administrative (procedural) law in general.
What do we offer?
A position for at least 32 hours per week (4 days a week, with the option to work from home about half the time) that offers plenty of opportunities to expand your knowledge and further your personal development. A positive work atmosphere and challenging, varied work in an interesting work environment. Your legal status is fully regulated under theJudicial Officers’ Legal Status Act (Wrra).
What are we looking for?
A completed law degree and at least six years of legal work experience in the field of general administrative law, or in one or more of the specific areas of substantive law entrusted to the CBb. Experience in drafting legal decisions (rulings or (guiding) judgments). Furthermore, you can identify the most complex legal issues and analyze and resolve them; you possess excellent writing skills and have the confidence and ability to think creatively and solution-oriented. You are also resourceful, have excellent organizational skills, and work independently.
