A girl is kneeling on the floor, playing with cards or game pieces in a modern school setting with a wooden floor.

Are you an expert in the behavior and development of (young) children, do you take a collaborative approach, and do you find fulfillment in empowering teachers, teams, and schools to find appropriate solutions? If so, we are looking for you to join us as a Behavioral Specialist at the PPO-NK Partnership.

Meet the PPO-NK Partnership

Passend Primair Onderwijs Noord-Kennemerland is an ambitious partnership of 14 school boards and 105 elementary and special education schools in the municipalities of Alkmaar, Bergen, Dijk en Waard, and Heiloo. Together with parents, municipalities, and school boards, we are working to create an educational system in which every child receives an appropriate educational program and the right support.

We are working together to advance the movement toward inclusive education, where all children are welcome at a school close to home. Every school provides an inclusive learning environment where all students—whether or not they require additional support—can grow and learn. Our core values are collaboration, professionalism, transparency, and flexibility. We view appropriate and inclusive education as a shared responsibility. That is why we are building a robust support network in which education, care, and support are closely interconnected.

How you make a difference

As a Behavioral Specialist, you help strengthen the support structure within our schools. You support schools by working to enhance the professional competence of teachers, internal counselors, and teams. In some situations, you’ll provide guidance at the individual level, but your contribution will primarily focus on sustainable improvements in support within the school. You’ll help schools better understand behavioral cues, support needs, and patterns, and translate these into structural improvements in pedagogical and didactic practices.

You observe, analyze, and translate your observations into recommendations that help strengthen foundational support. You guide teams in developing a collaborative approach, encourage reflection, and contribute to a culture of learning within and across schools. You adopt a systemic perspective and involve the broader school and partnership network when doing so helps to develop an appropriate approach.

In addition, you will play an active role within the PPO-NK expertise team. You will contribute ideas on how to deploy expertise in the region, organize reflection and peer review sessions, and help foster knowledge sharing and professional development. You will also provide insights and analyses that help further develop policy and quality within the partnership. With your expertise, collaborative attitude, and keen insight, you will strengthen education, the support structure, and ultimately the prospects of all students.

Your strengths and talents

  • A teaching certification with a Master’s degree in Special Education or a Master’s degree in Education, or training as a behavioral scientist or remedial educator.
  • Experience with complex behavioral issues in mainstream education and special education (including secondary special education).
  • Understanding of group dynamics, teacher behavior, and factors that influence the educational climate.
  • Skill in analyzing support requests and translating findings into practical and actionable recommendations.
  • Experience with coaching and facilitating learning and development processes within teams.
  • Ability to operate at different levels: student, teacher, team, school, and school district.
  • An open, collaborative attitude and clear communication.

What you can expect from us

  • A varied and socially meaningful position within a well-organized regional structure for special education.
  • Terms of employment and salary in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Primary Education.
  • A one-year contract, with the possibility of a permanent position.
  • A collaborative team where teamwork, dedication, and professionalism are key.
  • A work environment where collaboration, innovation, and inclusion are central.
  • Plenty of opportunities for professional development and knowledge sharing within the team.
